This is a great shot and I have taken pretty much the same shot -- assuming that the grey is the road in the background.

There is nothing wrong with this shot -- you can only play the hand that has dealt you. I like the 1st image because the butterfly has better color and the flower seems to be in better shape. But it is probably not necessary to carry the second flower -- except that the butterfly needs some room away from the frame.

Again, better attention and luck with SLR might give you a more pleasing shot. This butterfly really does not complement the pastels of the image. To do so may mean shooting in summertime or waiting for a more appropriately coloured insect to land.

Actually the grey in the background is a blacktop path in front of a pavillian at a local park.
