SD 100--strange Red eye redux

On my new SD 100, there is an incredible orange light that shines during red eye redux, and during ANY focus. It is very bright. This seems an odd feature, and I'm wondering if it is normal. It certainly precludes shots that are anonymous!

It is likely an auto focus assist light, which may also be employed as the Red Eye Reduction.

Turn off the AF assist light, and the Red Eye thingy, and you'll be all set to go.

Thanks, I didn't see that as an option but it may be buried in a menu--I'll check the manual.
