Ah right, hehe shows how well I know London, despite the fact I lived just 15 miles or so away from Docklands for over 34 years! been past it once before all those tall buildings were built & thats it, never went back as its a hassle getting around there.

We had a crack at living abroad several years ago, owned a home in "Menorca" quite a nice place, friendly & worlds away from all the happenings in the UK  but after a few years that "holiday feeling" goes & we found it was too restricting for us all, you see we are a family that likes to do anything & everything, but out there nobody did much of anything, my brother is an engineer & found it impossible to get all the items he needed where here its so easy.

Friends of ours recently packed up & came home to Devon, they stayed even longer than us, over 10 years but just had enough of the constant struggle to do anything, they pretty much summed it up, "its great if you just want to sit in the sun & drink & have a BBQ, but anything more & its very restricting" nothing wrong with drinking & having a BBQ but moderation eh? :p

This is a thread I love checking out. I've seriously considered many times replacing my wide angle lenses with this one, if it were constant F/2.8 I'd do so in a heart beat. Such a versatile lens, there's some very creative and talented folks shooting with it here too.

That would probably be camera shake not OOF. Just get a faster shutter speed and take more real world shots. Make sure the camera focuses on what you want, select a focus point don't let the camera guess. If you want a slow shutter, get it on a tripod.

i love it, amazing build, constant f4. it feels great, did i mention amazing build? :D

i will be trading it for a sigma 10-20 only because i feel like that i need the 10mm distortion when i shoot cars. if not, i would definately keep the tokina, as 12mm is already very wide for most applications.

This lens is only for crops right, it won't go on a full like a 5D?

Yes it will physically fit the 5D unlike EF-S lenses which wont, BUT its like looking through a tunnel, I have tried it ;)

i think i got a soft version :(
most if not all of my photos are coming out really soft,
even on a tripod low shutter speed ect.
pretty darn bummed..
but otherswise the colours are coming out nicely..
shot some photos of brooch's today and they were coming out really really soft and so my mate whacked on his 50 1.8 and the difference was incredible..
regardless of all primes being sharper than zooms..
is it under warranty to be fixed? or do i need to fork it out myself

Post some shots that you think are soft. I think that's the best way for anyone on here to help you out.

Hey, great shots there! I recognise that area in the second picture. That is Loch Maree and the road goes between Inverness and Gairloch on the west coast of Scotland. I have have an aunt and uncle who stay on the edge of the loch. Your picture does this place justice, the B&W conversion works really well. :)

I remember when i first brought this **second hand :p and it was a nice dark and clean Matt black. Now its turning into a grey color :) shows that its been through a lot of situations i guess.

Not long got mine to replace the 400D kit lens, its been grey and wet last few weeks and had no chance to get out and play but we had a hard frost the other day in Cambridge and couldnt resist my back garden. Shot some frosted pebbles and my over winter spring cabbage looked great, Frozen Veg! The ones on my FlickR are uploaded at higher quality.

Thanks guys for comments. Glad you like it. I really like this lens, it's very versatile. But it seems I'll get replacement soon. Got immoral offer: Canon 24-70 2.8L for £200! Only worry is am I going to miss 17 to 24 range?

But, less talk more pictures. Here is another sigma photo:

I've just taken delivery of a Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM :D & I'll have to see how it compares with the 17-70mm or do you know?

can i ask a question ?

i bought this lens yesterday and mounted on my 350D

well , i found that this lens loads up colors & contrast
i took some shoots and they are too rich of contrast & colors
is the lens or my camera?
