Recently, I've had people ask me for photos I've taken of them, or of their vehicles, etc. In one instance, a model had asked me for some pictures that I've taken in order to use for her portfolio, and in another, a car builder was interested in some shots that I took of his car at a recent show.

I've been considering the notion of offering them the chance to purchase the photos they are interested in, but I'm not sure where to start.

First off, what rights are normally transferred to the purchaser? Does a purchase infer ALL rights for a photo over to the buyer, or do I retain a copy?

How much should I consider selling a photo for? I don't think they are worth a lot personally, but I know I need to consider things like time spent adjusting the picture etc.

Comments please!

You keep all rights to your photos! It would be illigal for them tp make any money on them or reproduce them without your permission.
I normally charge $20 for an 8x10.
Make sure t\you have the model sign a release so you can use it also!

How do you get your photos printed? (if you do it yourself, what printer do you use?)

I usually print them myself or if it is coffee table book style, I have apple print it for me. I have heard that mpix.com is good, though have not tried them yet. I did order a sample pack from them earlier in the week.
I use a canon i9100 printer. There are newer versions of this printer now.

I use photoshelter.com you can sell prints or the image file its self. You can sell it royalty free or right managed. For 5 dollars U.S. a month you get 10gb of storage... Storefront etc etc... All you do is upload to your site. Set your prices. You can use paypal as your method of recieving payments if you don't have a merchant account. You give the customer the address. Then they can browse and picture. If they purchase prints. You can use thier printing partner print them or print them your self...

I use Smugmug, which is similar to Photoshelter. I really like their customer service. And the prints from the lab they use are just excellent.
