Hello, I've been lurking for a while and finally picked up my first macro lens on Monday.
Here are a couple of shots from today, suggestions for improvement are most welcome!

The hoverfly looks pretty good to me. I know they don't sit terribly still and pose, generally. LOL

both OK.
Depends what the images are for, but I might have tried a different angle to display the subject. Perhaps also a wider DOF? the rear wings appear OoF

nice shots......
I see you went for iso 400.... as brian says they are slightly noisy (not as noticable on the 1st shot tho as the background breaks it up)
I try as much as possible to always use ISO 100 for minimum noise

Thanks for the comments and pointers, composition is not my strong point!
Nice shots.

I made it a whole day before deciding I needed a better flash ;-) This afternoon I cobbled together a diffuser for my 550EX and caught this chap (about 15-20mm long) crawling on my plum tree...
Cantharis obscura.
