Hi all, I know this is not a great photo, but it captures my two year olds personality really well, can you suggest any ways to help it along? it seems rather mundane and dull.

Much like was done there, I'd try to minimize the background that's taking from your subject. Perhaps blur, vignette, or just using the render omni light feature to help center the attention.
Adding extra contrast on the subject will also help.

Great shot.
I upped the saturation and contrast. Masked out the boots and lightened them. Ran it through neat image then sharpened the subject and the masked boots.
