I have noticed that a lot of people do albums where the entire page is a picture rather than putting pictures in a book.

I took lots of pictures which could be used as a background, but I have no idea how to go about doing one. I did a quick search but couldn't find any explination.

Can anyone help with this? And is it easier to do than a normal, by book and put pictures in? Do you have to get the photos binded?

Thanks for any help/advice :o

I wish I could help. We don't do albums. Instead we offer a DVD photo collage set to music. I found that in this new technology age, people are starting to want everything condensed, paperless, and small...So, a DVD was our solution.

35mm, use photoshop to do this, collages and layouts are very very easy - you can even download actions that set up layouts for you.
Its all digital - do you use photoshop???

Yes I use photoshop. Once I do the layout though, how do I create the physical album?

save yourself the time. go to www.graphistudio.com. they will create awesome albums for you for about $400.00.

You can get a Graphi, designed by them, for ~400 during their 50% off special. You can also use Art Leather, Leather Craftsman, Zook Binder, Albums Inc, or any of the other hundreds of album companies.

The books are called flush mount coffee table books. If you want a really contemporary look you can check out Vision Art Books, Asuka Books, or the Art Magazine by Art Leather.

If you use a pro lab like Millers, you can order books directly from them ready to go.

Books cost anywhere from $290 - $900 (photographers costs). Our studio books start at 1200 and go to over 5000 (16x20 60 page) per book.

good luck

asuka books, momento, images2books, jorgensen, etc etc

go to google and search for coffee table books in your area or state....thats what i feel would work best if you have done photoshop layouts (Possibly asuka is best?)

I second Lumapix.... if you plan on doing layouts larger then 10x10 then you have to get the studio version. Incredible software though. Very easy and the results are SWEEEEET!

I'm considering outsourcing to China one day. They design and print your albums for approximately less than $30-$40 bucks.

But that's when I actually start making books :o

humm.. china may be cheaper in doing the album.. but quality is not that great. plus LT is about 4 months long, unless if you are willing to pay higher price.

my wife and i got our wedding photo taken in Taiwan where we had our wedding. it was then that i wanted to get into digital photography. our wedding album was worth every penny... but then again.. it was much more than $30-$30.

my cousin got married to his wife whom is from China. they had theirs done over there by a so called top rated photographer. the photos looks great.. but i can't say the same for the album though. also the quality of the photo paper didn't really make the photo wanna jump out either.

bottom line.. u get what you pay for. just my 2 cents..

For wedding books I use Candid 2000 or Burrell Pro Lab

To the OP - go to www.michaelcompany.com and request a catalogue. Every type of album you ever wanted to make...

Coffee table books aside (asuka, sharedink, mypublisher, etc), there are two types of "real" albums - matted and flush mount.

Matted albums have been around forever, and are very easy to assemble. You sinply choose the matts, tape the photos to the inside of the matts, and slide them into the page. The matts are usually cut to fit 1-4 standard photo sizes to a page. I like the Flora Elite series of matted albums because the pages are already bound in the books so all you have to do is insert the matted photos. Oter types have you assemble the pages as well.

Flush mounted consist of the prints actually glued to the front of the entire page - so no matts. These cone in two varieties - self mount (for the brave or the dexterous), and pro mounted, where you send the prints in to the album company and the mount them for you. The Arista line in the Michels Co catalogue is one of the companies that will mount and assemble the album for you, using your prints (at a very reasonable price).

Whether flush mounted or matted, many couples these days want "magazine style" layouts, with multiple images on one page (see attachment). I use the $99 version of Lumapix Fotofusion to design mine. It's easy as could be, and you can save your new designs as drag-n-drop layouts for future albums. The more expensive version lets you do multiple pages at a time and large double page spreads, but the cheaper version has all of the features that I use.

Great info everyone! That lumapix is awesome!!. I have been looking at graphistudio as well. Not sure whether i want to do it myself, or send it out. 200 to 400 a book is not a bad price. But thats 200 more in my pocket if i can do it myself.

how long on average does it take you all to do your albums? (for those that do them themselves)
