Except for TFCD shoots and rare exceptions I only include edited shots on a CD/DVD never the negatives or raw shots. They are paying for a certain level of quality and don't want to give them any of the rejects. But yes I frequently give them a digital printal copy of the image as I charge based on equipment/time not on prints.

When have you ever heard of someone who shoots film giving away his negatives. Never. It should be the same with digital.
Assuming this is for weddings. There are some clients that will only take the digital negatives, and that is all factored into the cost of the shoot.

This a practice that is becoming more and more prevalent and, imo, does nothing except lower the bar for the industry. I have only ever sold the processed JPG's once from a wedding and they paid dearly for it.
It is becoming common for those people that are trying to break into the field of photography to do this as a method of attaining the business. I will admit that it is a selling point. Once you have set this standard for yourself, I have to wonder how hard it is to stop doing it.
Some of my commercial work requires that I supply a digital image to them but this is normally for a one time use for a certain publication. In these cases then they will pay for my shootnig time and then so much per image used and the price on this varies depending on where in the publication it is being used.

I bought the negatives (film) from my wedding. Only after we spend a "fair amount" on a package, did she agree to sell us the negatives. Our photographer said she normally offers them a year or 2 later to clients, once they are done buying enough from her.
