View Full Version : My G1 is a piece of CRAP!

I need to vent...

It worked fine for about a year, then all hell broke loose. It decides to blow the infamous surface-mount fuse while I'm taking pictures at the Monterey Historic races (once a year and not cheap to attend), so I only got about 20 shots there. After fixing the fuse problem, which I did myself because Sony refuses to acknowledge the problem and wanted a minimum $150+ for service, I was using it again today to take some car photos again. I got some beautiful shots of my friends car, perfect lighting, perfect background, I couldn't have been happier with the shots reviewing them on the camera display. Then, I walk from outside to inside to download the pics and they're all gone! All of them have been erased somehow. Sure enough, I view through the display again and there's no files found. Of course the photos can't be taken again because I no longer have access to the place the car was parked (inside a locked compound).

I'm two seconds away from smashing this piece of crap (wording changed to keep it G-rated). I also know what brand of camera I'm NOT going to buy next time.

Thanks for the vent...

Dan,

Don't trash your camera yet. There's not many in that category that will take better pictures.

Something similar once happened to me when my battery was running low. The camera said no files were found, however, after I charged up the battery, all the pictures were there except for 1. I just had to scroll through them backwards to avoid the bad picture. I'm not a techie, however, my guess is that the one picture was corrupted and prevented a read of the file. You might also try checking the card on a CF card reader on your PC, and hopefully, your shots will still be there.

BTW, my 2 1/2 year old G-1 is currently being repaired under a Mack warranty for the fuse problem. It is a little frustrating for that to be such a wisespread problem, however, I don't think one breakdown in 2 1/2 years of a lot of use is too bad, but that's just my opinion. It also makes me feel a lot better that the extended warranty will cover the repair.

Good luck,

Derfel

Well, I would assume Sony would refuse to repair it, because it's actually a Canon product. :)
