Beautiful!!!!

Share some exif and/or tips? I am going to try this and I am so confused by what I am reading as it seems every single person uses different settings. On the other hand, I guess that means I might be more likely to catch them :D

Thanks Glad you like them :) Here is the info on these ones. I used any where from 1 sec to 30 sec exposures. The F stop varied from around 4 to 32. I guess the thing is just play around with it, and see what you get. Thats what makes it so fun.

1st Photo - Exp 3.2s / F13 / ISO100
2nd Photo - Exp 6s / F16 / ISO 100
3rd Photo - Exp 6s / F22 / ISO 100
4th Photo - Exp 6s / F22 / ISO 100

First is my favorite. Be prepared, you are going to get a lot of questions here with everyone trying to shoot fireworks tomorrow!

I was only about a few hundred yards from where they were shooting them from. (they were on top of a parking garage) I was using my 70-300 and never took it of of 70mm it was actually too long. I should have brought a more wide angle lens. But I have to say I'm very happy with the results. :)

I like your style! Now I can't wait to shoot ours tomorrow evening. I'm taking two DSLR's and two tripods, so it should be interesting.

lvoe that second group of photos, certainly a tighter crop, but very cool. guess it beats the standard style of photogrpahing fireworks

Cool stuff! I never would have thought of using a longer lens for fireworks but you've demonstrated that it can work.

Wowza!!!! love the first. All are very good. I am going to try tonight but very nervous. Tried shooting lightning and that hasn't gone very well, but did teach me how to do long exposures. Do you think my Tamron 11-18 would be better than my 70-200...I am sure I will be further away than you were. I was just talking to the lead pyro guy and the police and it's going to be rough securing a spot. I have to cover an event at the American Legion too so can't park and wait all day.

Most of the shots I took last night were using a 70+mm focal length. Unless you are really close, the 70-200 should be just fine.

Okay Thanks Dan. That lens seldom lets me down!

Mine were also at the 70mm range, so I would have to agree that the 70-200 would be fine. Good luck. Post some after so we can see how they came out.

I will. Don't know why I am so nervous about it. just put it on 100 ISO or, shoot is it 1600...Bulb probably f/11 press shutter for about 8 seconds unless I use noise ninja (like I could figure that out!). I am freakin out over this!

I'll be shooting in Minneapolis tonight, and I'm really hoping some of mine come out well. Is it good to shoot around f11 or so w/ ISO 100 and just let the shutter be what it will? I kinda practiced the other night, but the fireworks were so far away that it was tough... I guess I'll go look at all my EXIF data... I'm a tad nervous too... Don't get to shoot big fireworks very often....

Here's what I ended up with...

About half way through the show, some type of bug decided it wanted to hang out on my lens, and I didn't see it because I set up in advance and remotely triggered the camera. Fortunately it only screwed up about 12 of 80 pictures.

I know the one isn't fireworks, but I liked the effect of the ghosted people and the flares on every light.

Any CC?
