I seem to have problems getting the true colors to show on photos I take with my Powershot A20. The problem mainly happens with dark colors and especially with any shades of red. Blues are usually ok. Purples it has some problem with. Black is, well, black. But I can never get a shade of red or pink to come out the way it actually is. Any suggestions?

The human eye and the electronic CCD do not see the colour spectrums exactly the same.
Also, the inks and paper and viewing light may affect the spectrum of light in the image you see.
The CCD picks up ultraviolet and infra red light whereas human eyes don't. Also, the CCD does not exactly match the human eye in our visable spectrum (though it's very close.)
Flowers, and clothes will sometimes render completely different from what they look like to your eyes due to large doses of UV and/or IR light.
That said, there may be an imbalance with the white balance, try manually setting the white balance, or selecting the setting that most matches the type of light you have (as these setting may help offset spectrum changes introduced by the light source.)
