A friend of mine was asked to shoot a wedding for a couple who cannot afford a lot of money. This friend has 20 years of experience in photography but never shoot wedding before. He wants to know if his equipment is adequate: he has only a Rebel XT and 430EX speedlite. Has any professional wedding photographers used these two combo before?

Sure it is. The lens is the most important part. What's he got? I've used the XT for weddings before...I had a 580, though.

If you're shooting for a friend as a favour with no intention to go pro then sure, why not. The photographer is the most important part of the system.

20 odd years ago I shot my sisters wedding with a Pentax Spotmatic on Ilford FP4 and she still loves the album that I printed in a cupboard under the stairs. If you manage to capture moments that become lasting memories then the equipment is secondary.
