What's the latest on the Dell ordered Canon 70-200 L IS lenes? Anyone received any lately? They told me 11-14 for a delivery date on my 9-24 order.
Inquiring minds want to know....

Ordered on 9/24. Got automated voice response indicating 11/14 estimated ship date (or was that 11/17?).

Go check your order status at Dell. I did it after posting this and got:
Pending Items
Your item(s) is being processed and should ship by the estimated ship date.
Pending Currently attempting to complete order
SKU: A0166172 Quantity: 1
Description: EF 70-200 MM F/2.8 L IS
An exciting change after the dull "On back order" message they had been posting

This morning my status said pending, order being processed. I called Dell and they could give ne no further information. However I just checked again and saw the following message:Currently, one or more items have been discontinued and require your attention. Please contact your sales representative for further details.

My order status said the same thing. I called my Rep and he said that my order was fine - still awaiting shipments from Canon to fulfill the backlog. He wasn't able to tell me where my order stood in compared to others but he did say they were receiving another shipment later this month to ship out early next month.
I ordered on 9/22. The voicemail I had received said on or before 11/13.

The voicemail I received said November 14th for a ship date.

Hey...
I also got a voicemail awhile ago saying my lens would ship on 11/14.
My account hasn't been charged - BUT my "available credit" is minus the amount of the lens.

Several have arrived to the folks over on Miranda's site. It's not a fantasy. They are for real, even though some will wait months for arrival, that $500 savings is pretty sweet!!

NOW several of us are getting messages that our order has been discontinued. They are reporting the same over at Miranda...
I'm calling on Monday! As of this morning I was still scheduled to have my lens shipped 11/14 - now I get a message to contact my sales rep.
Loois like Dell pulled the plug. Not happy....

Yeah, I now have the same message on the order status page at dell. I've read lots posts reflecting the same. However, I've not heard of an actual order being canceled as of yet. Websites with backordered items are notorious for giving incorrect status messages, especially from the big players with thousands of items on order at any given time.
Don't panic just yet. I believe that all will be shipped as promised, just perhaps not by the dates promised. I'd love to have the "deal of the century" for a lens, but what the heck, if my order does get canceled, I'll just buy it somewhere else, have a tool I really need much sooner, and not fret over what could/should have been.
How about a class action lawsuit for mental distress for all the drama? I've been "irregular" for a month as a direct result of this lens order and Dell's ensuing drama tactics!! THAT should count for some pain and suffering for EVERYONE at my house... sorry, just trying to lighten the mood a bit. :-)
Good luck everyone,
David

Ditto on the cancellation message. Got this from their order status website this morning:
"Currently, one or more items have been discontinued and require your attention. Please contact your sales representative for further details.
SKU: A0166172 Quantity: 1

I can't tell if I should be angry or smug about having predicted this. Of course we still don't know how this is going to play out yet, but a key part of how I feel about Dell in the future will be how they deal with this debacle.
If they had come out immediately and said it was an honest mistake, it would have been much easier to be philosophical about; if anything, I probably would have felt some sympathy for the poor soul who made the mistake. Now that a month has passed and I've made other lens purchases based on eventually getting the 70-200 f/2.8L, I now feel I've been inconvenienced and financially impacted.
I'm generally a pacifist. I'm the last one to complain about a bad meal in a restaurant, not at all susceptible to road rage, and the last person to raise his voice in an argument. But that doesn't mean I never get angry, and if it should turn out that some people actually got the lens at that price, while others were arbitrarily cut off at the knees, then I will be furious, as should all of you who ordered the lens and for almost a month, were led to believe you were getting it.
I intend to wait until I hear the official explanation from my Dell Rep. Then, depending on what she says and how it sits with me, I'll determine what to do next. If they don’t intend to do the right thing, then hopefully the collective howl from all of us will compel them to reconsider a very bad PR move on their part.
