JohnR and I had a weekend in the furthest west. The sun shone, the (little) rain rained and the midges bit.
These two were taken about an hour apart from the camp-site near Arisaig

The first one is near Morar, south of Mallaig - who needs Tropical beaches - and the second is Loch Linnhe from near the Corran Ferry.

Hi John great shots, but for me #4 really stands out.

ps Are you and John trying to sneak in some landscape practice before the next meet....:) :)

Great shots John :)

Those beaches eh :D You've gotta love them. I'll be passing that area enroute to Mallaig to catch the ferry to sky in 3 1/2 weeks, canny wait :D

Excellent. The first and the last are my favourites.

You certainly got better weather than you left behind in Edinburgh. I got roped into helping my daughter move into her new flat there. We left sunny warm Perth on Sunday morning and experienced thunder, lightning and torrential rain all afternoon in Edinburgh!

Lovely John, and apart from the third yacht one which is instantly recognisable, the others are interesting to see your takes on the same area. For instance, your first shot and my Arisaig evening (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=187430) shots were taken from the same point except that you looked out to sea, and I looked back at the shore. ;)

Wonderful series of shots there. I have some good memories of Arisaig and Mallaig - nice to be reminded of them.

Thanks Scott. And I couldn't possibly comment.

Thanks for all the positive comments, guys.
As John will confirm, my favourite direction for shooting is about 45 degrees either side of directly into the sun. And all my best photos seems to come from here. (The sun in No4 is just out of shot, above the 2nd rock from the left. (Hey, that could be a TV programme!)
Take an extra few hours, Scotty and turn off the main road at Arisaig. That's where these (except No4) are from.
And yes John, I find it interesting how we can be virtually in each other's pockets (if you see what I mean) and come up with very different stuff most of the time.
John's wife let us HEAR the rain when he phoned home, Mike - Nae luck!

Thanks John

My ferry leaves at 8.00AM from Mallaig and apprently those with cars have to be there at 7.00AM Arisaig with be an out of focus streak as I head up, might catch the area on return though :)

That sky colour is absolutelly gorgeous J.
What i love in that 1st one is the high contrast that seperates the left from the right side of the picture, and ofcours the freezing of the waves.

All good. #4 has a vibrancy that makes the shot my favourite of the collection.

4th is a killer image, all the elements come together in a very pleasing way, wouldn't mind the tech details behind it.

The 4th one stopped me, John - that's great.

Thanks Dimitri. That's my favourite of the four. Everyone else seems to prefer no 4 - which, Olli, Les and Balliolman, is very much appreciated.

There's nothing to stop you, Scotty. It's light at 4:30, eh John.

No problem - 20D, 1/100sec, f16, ISO200, 10mm (Sigma 10-20mm), 5400K white balance, -1/3 stop, hand-held - Oh, and 09:36am, dead flat calm.

The recipe for what appears to be, thanks to you all, good picture...
And did I mention boundless talent? No. Thought not.

By the way, Les , I've had a look at your website - very impressive indeed.

Very nice series, John. The last must be very special, as no one has mentioned the tilted horizon.

Love them all but #4 is probably my favorite as well. Actually, it's pretty much a toss between that and #1.
Great job!

Yeh, it is. However on my monitor I can't detect any tilt. I used crop and rotate to level the horizon and the edge of the window, so maybe they're squint.

But, thanks for the comment.
