Hi
I'm looking for a critique on this one. I think I like it but I need another opinion.

Thanks
Martin

I think you have analysed this yourself. To my eye its one of those pictures that you should like. It has all the elements, bold colours, interesting shapes etc.

But, it just doesn't quite work for me, sorry.

Maybe its the composition or the particular elements involved, but it just doesn't quite seem to form a pleasing image.

Its not a bad picture by any means, but I think that you sometimes get one like this just misses the mark for no obvious reason.

I apologise for not giving more constructive criticism and I will be interested to hear what others think.

This photo has grand colours, but yes, something is missing. Perhaps it is the window. We see the bright blue shutter, but no window that it belongs to (just the half that the shutter covers)

Perhaps a change in perspective. A closer view from the other side of the post box with the blue pipe and shutter behind it?

Hi
Thanks for your quick responces. I think your remarks are dead on. The image doesn't quite come together as I suspected. I do still like the colours. Ok here is another from a different angle. This is I like too, but it doesn't excite! What do you think?

Regards
Martin.

I agree, the bold colours are great, but it does lack a certain wow factor. Lots of potential there, and I'm sure there are many great knock out shots waiting for you to discover them.
Of the two shots, the strongest is the first, though I like full version a lot too.

Nice to see real shutters. The houses here in Canada usually have fake shutters. :(

I agree you have bold, beautiful colors and good exposure. What comes to mind when I view the image is "Why?" Your first image (and second as well) don't tell me why I should look. They lack a focal point from which to start.

That's my two cents....

I think this could be a great picture, however, looking at it in that perspective gives the blue shutters a lack of purpose. You should try retaking the picture standing more directly in front of the house (but not dead on directly) so that you can capture the windows as well. Also, the left side of the picture makes me feel claustrophobic, perhaps if you included more of the scenery that's to the left of the house, see if you can stand back a little further too when you pull the trigger. One last think, you should try to sharpen the picture a little more, it looks very fuzzy and kind of uncomfortable to look at.

Other than that, you have found a great subject to photograph.
