Had a change of horse power a couple of weeks ago. Had a good time with my new MkII N. Any comments from the regular horse snappers as I have another event lined up for the end of the month.
Here's a couple to start with.
1# Showing off my country retreat :)
91128
2# Pippa Funnell taking to the skies.
91129
Cheers for looking

Hi Shaun ,
The first shot is a keeper the background makes the shot, brilliant a definate seller to the rider .
The second looks a little dark on my screen and did you pre focus as the little fir trees look really sharp.
Lots of Luck

I agree with Otta, the background in the first shot really helps give it that bit of extra something.

Shaun, 1st is spot on! Couldn't ask for a better backdrop. I agree with the others about the second. Congrat on your new MKIIN. I am unable to rein myself in with my 20d, I will probably have to be leashed when I get mine, hopefully next year. Keep those shots coming. What lens did you use?

Many thanks for the comments everyone.
Roy, yes I was pre focused on the fir tree as I was messing about with some daft slow shutter speeds untill my wife told me that Pippa was jumping the first section of the jump so I wound up the shutter speed.
I shoot with a 300 2.8L
As for Lord Bath and his murals, it's knocked thousands off the value
Here's two more

looking at these the compression has been two much. Might try and edit later.

As with the rest.. The first one is the pick of the lot.. But I gotta ask. Did you posiiton yourself for that shot/effect or realise after ?

Hi Kipax
Yes the shot was meant. Went and found the view, what would be the point of going and not getting the house in at least one of the shots!
Cadwell was talking about shooting the same style images over on "motorsport" not so long ago in that he had the same shots of the same cars at the same corner from the last three years, why? I added a comment which a friend, who's a picture editor, told me and it was along the lines of, I send so and so half way round the world and all I get back are tight cropped bikes that you could have taken at Thruxton. I want to see palm trees and blue sky.
Made me think about what I shoot and why, at the end of the day we are all trying in our own way to record what we see. A photographic record of an event, a day or moment in time that can be passed on to the viewer.
Note to self, lay off the larger during football.
Thompsunshine, any good at dusting

Kipax,
These little gems are the type of shot you should try and get more often. Ask yourself why they are gems, what makes them stand out, and can you repeat the type of picture, shutter speed DoF angle etc. Unless you mean the ball covering the face, crashes, falls etc. All adds to making more of the limited time we get to shoot in.
Thompsunshine, mental image being created as I type ;)
Cheers

Boggy. I know what you mean (good advice thanks) and yes I do learn from my shots by investigating every aspect.. including position and timing and location... Surely it happens to other people as well that they get a gem and dont realise it until there going through the pics?
My best example... I was photographing runners and didn't see this until I got home.. The title makes the picture but it's one of those I think is good. was got by acccident and couldn't be reproduced :)

Narlus, yes they are like that due to the compression, just never got round to edit them. I've put a handfull of images up on photobox.

gsgary, not sure yet as my other half has a "hen day" on that sat, plus I've yet to sort out my September dates as some clash with bikes and cars.
If I end up going I'll pm you to let you know if that alright. Might try to get along to Wilton House this coming w/end as its the next round of the stately homes challenge.
