bokeh?

I've been reading in ignorance for too long now, what does "bokeh" mean?

It is from the Japanese language, and it refers to that nice round, out-of-focus background light.

Set up your camera in a dark room. Put a tiny source of light on the other side of the room. Something like a laser or a Mag-Lite. Frame up the camera on it. Now throw the focus ring to the other end of the focus scale. Shoot. Examine the photo.

THAT is bokeh.
