I took this at a Zao concert if anyone knows who they are.
C/C Welcome. This was taken with a Canon A520 Powershot. Nothing great, but not a bad pic.

Um, I' m not sure where you are coming from with this image ... of all the times you could have shot this guy you chose the instant he had both hands plus the microphone right in front of his face plus blonde hair and a blue hat blazing in the foreground. It is generally faces first and then instruments that concert photographers go for but this has neither. So, what I am wondering I guess is what about this image appeals to you? Is there something artistic that you like? The Tats? The closeness? The contrast? The shirt?

OK ... then I didn't miss anything! If you are happy with it that is what counts. It is nice to have the location/venue and date as well as the name of the band and what your participation was if anything unusual.

I hear that, however I still find myself in there to get photos as I am nearing age 40. Slayer is going to be rough next week.
To the creator of the thread: At hardcore shows and metal shows with no barricade I find that it's much easier to get good photos if I show up early and hang out right up front. Oh yeah, get insurance on your gear if you shoot from the pit often :)

I shoot from the pit a lot - if you know what you are doing you can get good shots.

I've found that if I stand right of center in the front rather than dead center I don't get beat up quite as bad. LOL Most concerts I've been to I've managed to avoid actual moshing (as in body slamming), but I've had to dodge the crowd surfers. I'm too old and out of shape to be much help so I just duck.

one of the rock clubs i shoot at, there is alot of moshing, so i kinda just cling on to a pole at the front of the stage, it kinda looks like if i was holding a pole and a river wastrying to pull me away, lol if you get me? some times its fun, but mostly just pain annoying as its only a small club anyway!

I shot a gig the other night and had to do it from the mosh pit, it was a hardcore metal band, in Britain hardcore kids mosh out in a kind of kung fu style, swinging arms violently and really high kicks. Not something you want to come in contact with your camera!
Like the guys tattoos, stick with it and you'll start to get better shots, but definitely get insured, I do mine attached to my home insurance and its hardly anything.

I get in and be firm but polite - I find most people will make room for you if you are polite and let them know you will only be there for a little while. I do it all the time. Occasionally you get a few arseholes but generally the crowd are friendly and interested in where they can see my photos.

Zao... those guys originated in my (small) hometown... Parkersburg, WV. I have no clue if any of the original guys still belong but I grew up going to local HC shows where Zao played, until they hit the "bigtime". I don't follow the scene anymore.
I don't recognize the drummer or the singer... so I'm doubting they are even the same group anymore :) The last time I remember seeing them play (at least 8 years ago), I think Jessie (drummer) was the only original member left... that aint him in the bg.

Zao think i have them on my creative zen! Bit to loud for me! however back to the image can you do any PP (post processing) on it, even just crop the blue hat out?
The hands in front of the face i think is a shame, however play about with crop and re-post your results if you can. :)
