Hey, I ordered a Rebel XT from Dell like a month ago and just got it a couple weeks ago after waiting 26 days..... Well theres 1 or 2 dead pixels in the screen....
We called and after getting transfered 50 times, someone finally helped us and said theyd ship us another camera, and then we ship ours back when the new one comes.. That was a week or longer ago
I dont think they emailed us anything about shipping it, and I dont know if im going to get another!
My main concern is.. Do I fill out the warrenty for this camera or the next? Dont I have to get that filled out pretty soon? and really important is the REBATE, which ends July 15th. Should I send in the rebate for this camera? or then will dell not take it back? Do I have to wait for my next camera and then make dell pay me $100?
All help is appreciated.
Thank you
Aaron

Sorry to say, but I would have to say that you should wait until the new camera arrives before filling out any warranty information or rebate information. I would assume though that the rebate will still be valid since the original purchase date was before the 15th.
One other thing::
I think you jumped the gun on sending that camera back. 1 or 2 dead pixels in an LCD screen is normal.
This is from page 9 of your users manual, under the heading "LCD Panel and LCD Monitor":
Although the LCD monitor is manufactured with very high precision technology with over 99.99% active pixels, there might be a few dead pixels among the remaining 0.01% or less pixels. Dead pixels displaying only black or red, etc., are not a malfunction. They do not affect the images recorded.
Hope this helps,
- Tom

I never sent it back... I still have the original Camera
They said theyd send me another and I get to send mine back after the new one comes.. Another photographer said to call them and if they arent sending another, then to just forget about it.
I stilll havent called Dell yet though. How many days do I have to fill out the warrenty stuff? Should I try sending in the rebate stuff now for this camera? IF I did, would Dell take it back with the UPC cut out? or could I get 2 rebates, haha. Even if I cut the UPC out and sent it back, is there really anything they can do since it was already sent back? Would they just send it back to me?

You don't have to fill out the warranty card unless you're sending the camera back for warranty repair. All I did was register my new camera online, that way I get notification of new firmware updates, etc. If you're planning on sending the first one back to Dell, DO NOT cut the UPC off of the box. What a lot of places do (I'm not sure if Dell does it) is they CHARGE YOUR CARD for the replacement product, and then credit you back when they recieve the damaged item. If Dell does this, then you may have a hard time getting your credit back since you didn't send everything back in the same condition you got it in. But like I said, your original purchase receipt should show that you purchased the item before the rebate cut off, so you should still be eligible for the rebate. You don't have to send the rebate stuff in before July 15, you just have to buy the camera before July 15. You should still have like 30 days or so after the 15th to get everything sent in.

I'd call Dell again. The last time I checked on the XT on dell's site, it said that shipping would take 4-6 weeks when buying a new one. Dell gets the cameras through a 3rd party vendor who drop ships to their customers (which is why it took so long the first time). I wouldn't be surprised if getting a replacement camera will take as long as buying one outright.
I'd also check with Dell about the charges mentioned above. Apple did the same thing to me when I had to ship my iPod in to get repaired. They advance-shipped me a new one, but it was under the condition that if I didn't get the broken one shipped to them within 30 days, they'd charge my credit card for it.

Thanks for the replys.
I hope that I can get the new one sooner, anything I should ask Dell about other than the rebate stuff? I thought someone mentioned that they could probably ship it faster since its a replacement, Should I ask them about faster shipping?
I already have 1000 pictures on my XT in the 3 weeks ive owned it  so id love to get a new one :)

i'm sorry to hear about your troubles.. but dell's not exactly the best place to go when buying photography equipment =( I'd also say that you should wait on the rebate, since your original purchase was before the expiration date, problem is you gotta cut out the UPC code from the box, so if u do that with the camera with dead pixels, it might cause problems on the return. Better to play it safe

I called Dell today, talked to one of their foreign people that you cant understand. They told me to call back tomorrow and gave me a number/ext for 'customer care'. It shows it on Dell.com that its ordered, ($960!) compared to my original $713, big difference without promo codes. and said it would be shipped by June 26.... then in the order status it shows its still being proccessed..... hmm..
When I call tomorrow should I ask for faster shipping since the rebate ends on July 15? Anything I should say that would speed it up or help? thanks

dell charges you if you haven't shipped your old equip. back within ten days. keep all your reciepts from the cameras and the shipping reciepts and any emails from dell about the camera problems. mail them in with the rebate. the rebate place in arizona loves to decline rebates so remember to keep an eye out on the rebate webpage that tells you the status of your rebate. if they decline you then call them and nicely explain the situation and refer to the reciepts and emails you send and they should give you the rebate. i had a similar problem with returning my 20d last summer. you should probably also pre register for the rebate online. make sure you keep copies of the reciepts and emails.

I called Dell's 'customer care' today.... Talked with one of their GREAT customer service people that you cant understand... so I just hung up because the help was so great...
So I tried their online support. Talked with a nice guy who was actually helpful.. I asked him about faster shipping since their's a rebate that ends on July 15. He said that the new camera should be shipped on July 12, and if I dont get it before July 15, to Call customer care and that I will be refunded $100 to my credit card if I prove there was a rebate. So I guess im ok on the rebate stuff and dont need to worry. If I get Dell to refund me $100, I can still try to send in the rebate with my original receipt... and get $200 back :) :D
