yes I am still a newbee to Photoshop and only moderately computer literate....

have been using Elements 2 which came with my 20D and decided to upgrade to Elements 4 so I could do some RAW processing to. So I bought the software and installed it, far so good..

however now Elements 4 seems to open up all JEPEG files and PDF files (that used to be opened by Adobe Reader)

this is a real nuisance. I used to like to be able to browse files using Windows Explorer (yes I got addicted when I was using Win98. Now when I use Windows Explorer and try to open a JPEG it opens Elements 4 automatically.
Annoying but not too much of a problem...

the bigger problem is that when I want to open and email attachement that has PDF file attached the computer no longer automatically goes to Adobe Reader (free downloaded version) Elements 4 pops up and trys to read it. It makes the navigation of these documents much more cumbersome.

Pleaseeee how do I fix this..
thx

It sounds like you made PSE4 your defalut PDF and Jpeg reader. Try going into preferences and see if you can change that. If not just reinstall and this time make sure to click/unclick the boxes that make PSE4 you default reader.

hi gabrio try right clicking on a jpeg, select properties, then under where the file type is ,there is a change box, click on this and from the list ,highlight explorer (or whatever prog you want to open it in) make sure the checkbox to make sure this prog opens this type of file is checked, then click on apply (all jpgs should then open in explorer.) as for the psd files follow the above procedure except highlight adobe reader for the program to open the files of that type...hope this helps

I have Elements 3 and had the same problem. Fixed it by going to Edit on the menu, pick file association and uncheck the boxes.

Also, your Elements 4 disc may have a new version of the Adobe Acrobat reader (mine did). If it does, you could install that after you have installed Elements 4, and it should fix the file association problem.
