View Full Version : Anyone see an A70 do this???

Hi all,
I was asked by my brother who has an A70 that is doing some mighty bizzare stuff, see pics:

I thought perhaps water, but to his knowledge no. He mentioned that maybe the computer messed it up, but I don't see that as very viable. I don't think the lenses being
out of alignment would/could cause it to be that bad. This camera is about 3 yrs old and has about 500 shots on it. Thanks in advance!

You could try another card in it, but it looks like the Sensor has decieded life just wasn't worth it anymore.

This was my initial thought that the image sensor bit the dust....
somehow and not many actuations on the camera itself.

I have seen it do that before, the ccd sensor in the camera is bad, canon was taking back the cameras that gave that problem and were fixing them free of cost. My was doing that a couple of times and i sent it back, i just got it back a few months, it is also happening with some other models. The ccd in them was made by sony. So you might want to go to the canon repair site and see if they are still repairing. They changed the ccd sensor. Hope that i was helpful.

It looks like CCD failure. This (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=225&modelid=13390&keycode=2112&id=27703) is the official announcement from Canon USA about the problems - get in touch with Canon and they should sort you out.

My girlfriend has that problem with her A70. My work around is to give the camera a whack and it works fine.

I will have to let my brother know that this is a possibly free repair.
If this is the case, this is very good news! It is odd that it bit the dust
after about 500 pics. The only other digital camera I have experience
with is my 10D and it is over 14,300 actuations and still going strong and
had it since April, 2003.
