Hi all.

I'm just starting to get more serious into photography (newbie). I'd like to print some pics at home. Just wondering if some of you can tell me what printers you have, and if you recommend printing at home, or taking them to a photolab.

The printers I'm currently considering are:

Epson R800
Canon Pixma iP6600D

Any other suggestions will be welcomed. Thanks again!

i personally use the canon i9900, because i like large format (up to 13x19 in this case). if you want bigger than letter size pictures, and have the space for a fairly large printer, then it is a great deal, i think they run about $400 now. other than that i hear great things abou the ip6600D. dont know anything about the epson really.

Epson R2400 - does outstanding prints, especially B & W prints.

(hint: there is a section devoted to post-processing and printing - you may get more feedback there)

I use a Canon S900 with excelent results, though it only gets me up to A4.
I really miss not having the possibility to print A3 at home, so my advice is for you to consider that in your case.

Epson Stylus Photo R1800- I'm very happy with print quality. I like to see prints from R2400 & R9800- sure those are great printers too.

Canon Pixma ip6000D
but I hate how they disable the cd print function on it

I use Canon iP4200. Only prints up to 8.5 by 11, but the colors come out great. I can hardly tell between some I have printed and ones sent to a lab.

It seems like a lot of people like the canon printers over the others. I'm still trying to decide whether i'll print anything above 8"x10".

I wish the canon would print on cd's as that is something that I may use.

Epson R1800. Really does the job for me. I had an Epson 1280, great prints....but VERY slow.

Canon Pixma iP8500. I only print up to 8.5 x 11 at home. Larger goes to a lab.

I print with an Epson 1280 and an HP Color Laserjet 4500DN.
I use the HP for quick proofs and CD/DVD Labels and the Epson for 8x10's if I need to print something right away. Everything else is printed at a lab since it is cheaper in the long run and comes out great.

BiggPoppa, the two printers you list are not "in thte same class" . The R800 is brilliant and comparable to the Canon iP8500/8800, sorry forgot the exact code. the i6600D is at a lower than the 8500/8800

I use the iP6600D from Canon. I just don't like the slight magenta tint it gives to the pictures, but other than that, it's very close to my calibrated monitor's colors. I got mine for 80 dollars via Best Buy discount awhile back so I'm not complaining. :D

Epson 2200 with paper specific profiles .... for my lustre prints I use MicroCeramic Lustre (like Illford Pearl) found at inkjetart.com .
For glossy prints, I use Pictorico High Gloss White Film .... not really a paper, but more like thin plastic.......

Epson 2400. Really very nice on glossy paper for color prints and exceptional for black and white photos!

Epson R1800. Great prints up to 13x19. I use Epson Enhanced Matte paper most of the time (used to be called Archival Matte). When I have printed the same photo on Enhanced Matte and Premium Glossy, I seem to get more contrast on the matte.

Yes, I noticed that. I think I had the wrong epson listed. I'm now trying to debate between the following printers. R1800 would be great, but out of my price range.

Epson R220
Epson R340
Canon iP6600D
Canon iP5200

I'm leaning towards the R340, because it seems that alot of people are fans of the epson series of printers, but any coments as to why I shouldn't pick the epson r340 is most welcome.

I have the Canon Pixma 8500. The only thing that I actually print is for my personal images. Anything for a customer goes to a lab.

I've put alot of work through this unit and I really like it. I use nothing but Ilford Galerie paper.

I use the $250,000 Fuji Frontier Pro................or at least the print lab uses theirs for me haha.

9600 at work, and I've used a Epson 4800. I would recommend both, and I THINK that the 7600 is the smaller version of the 9600.

okay...i did a bit of searching, and it looks like I can get the R340 and the iP6600D for the same price.....so they're now both at the price level I want to pay......hmmm.....any suggestions?

:)

Nice set up! I love the 24" Dell.....I've only got a 19" :(

I noticed that you have a nice collection of printers......what do you think of the R200 as this is the step below the R340?

I got the IP6600D a week ago and am meaning to do a mini review. I did the shots ready but been too busy to finish it. Seems to get good reviews elsewhere, but I would have been happy with another Epson too. I had the R300 which was excellent and I believe the R340 is the latest version of that.

I have only done test prints so far. I have a calibrated monitor using EyeOne 2 and then use Ilford Gallerie paper with the Ilford profile. Things looking good using that set up, tho build is very plastic and my first one arrived with a defective LCD screen. The magenta tint look doesn't seem apparent using the Gallerie profile but more testing needed. First shot I did straight out the printer without the profile did have it. I will try it properly this weekend.

I use an Epson R1800, great prints upto A3+ plus you can put roll paper on the back and get long panaramas from it. New K3 inks from Epson make the prints very durable

See my signature. The Canon i9900 is the best printer I've owned and I have had a few. Love the available print sizes and the quality is outstanding. One man's opinion.
