I'm sure there will be much more questions, but so far I have only one:
How come the photos appear to be little (over) saturated?

WRT to over-saturated colours, if you have been using raw format you can try different saturation settings when you convert to TIFF/JPG to see the difference. If you have been shooting JPG, you will need to add a new set of parameters to your options.

It is strange for D30 is too well known for it lack of contrast and saturation coming out of the camera.
Is your issue concern with photographs coming straight out of the camera or after digital darkroom? If it is the former, try a look at your setting profile of your camera. If it is the latter, try not using any automatic contrast tool and check your monitor profile and see if it is correct.

Thank you all for your input. I ended up lowering saturation parametar in the camera to minimum, and it looks good now.
