Could Canon place a circular polarizer in the next G camera like the have with the ND filter in the G3/G5. I think that would be a cool feature.

why just a built in CPL ???
let`s hope canon also adds built in colour filter, diffuser filter, n gradual filter ...
hope so :)

That would be very difficult (and expensive) to do. A polarizer needs to be able to rotate to different angles in order to work correctly. Putting a built-in polarizer that you would be able to somehow rotate (and disable when desired) would be quite a feat!

a linear is enough for the g series, no need for a circular, there's no mirror involved.
Still I don't find it a good idea, but a ND gradual would probably be more useful as a lot of landscapes contain too much a dynamic range to be captured and it would help a lot darkening only the sky.

Interesting but costly proposition. Would everyone want to pay for this?

The G3 already contains a built-in ND filter that is glass, not electronic. It actually slides a glass ND filter in front of the shutter behind the main lens elements.

GRADUAL ND, deckyon, read the post.
They could make it and i don't think it would be too costly, as they already put the ND there the slot exists, we could change ND/NDgradual/off not much of a fuss.
Still they would have to construct a tiny nd gradual, which could be difficult but in our age of miniaturisation nothing is impossible.

I just love rude people.

firstly, just because I didn't say please it doesn't make it a rude post, where's the insult here ???
Secondly, you made me appear idiotic for allegedly not knowing about the ND in my G3 even if the word "gradual" was in my post.
Actually I still believe the gradual ND could be a good and not too costly idea (as opposed to the circular pl).

I love people who take offence after not reading a post properly.
I don't think 6fingers was out of line.
A non-movable gradual nd would limit composition to centred horizons. A movable one could be as difficult to implement as the polariser.

In the end,. I am sure the only reason an ND was included in the G3 was to make up for the cameras pitiful f/8 minimum aperture... with only f/8 on asunny day one would need astronomical shutter speeds to remain correctly exposed.
That is the only reason the ND was installed,. it was cheaper than stopping the lens down more, or upping the shutter speeds any more.
