Hi Guys

I have been asked to shoot a wedding for 3hrs....11am-1:30pm.
They really ONLY want ceremony photo's? And family shots, not even posed shots or casual shots of the B&G or bridal party...just basically 30 mins to photograph the family and then together.
Obviously something im not going to have to use a whole lot of creativity with, which i don't mnd, but how do you price something like this?
I am thinking at the moment $500 WITH proof book.....i usually charge this much for a "Formals only" package (I have had couples ask me to forget about ceremony and reception and just shoot the family photo's and the posed formals)
What do you guys think?

Thanks :)

i just wrote 3hrs well its obviously 2.5 hrs, but i reckon with time schedules running late...it'll end up being 2pm when it finishes before they get on the paddle steamer and float away...

I think you should go with your "Formals only" package pricing. Sounds about right to me at least. In Sweden formal shots are the standard really. Just posed or semi-posed of the couple. Seldom the parents are in the formal shots.

During the busy season I say no. Actually for the busy season I say no unless they want an album, because I have to make enough money to live.

For short jobs, if i'm not busy and feel like doing it, I charge a fairly hefty hourly rate. I also charge for the images on CD, which is what budget concsious people usually want.

We have a low rate for something like this available for mid-week weddings - we'll only book it for a weekend if it's short-notice and we're not doing anything else. Allowing for exchange rates, and the fact we have to charge VAT (value added tax) our price is a bit higher than your 500 ...but that's probably more down to what the market will bear in different countries?

Back in March we did a similar short wedding on a Saturday, very little room for anything creative - but they just paid a slight discount on what would be our normal lowest Saturday rate.

Well it will be my first wedding booked outside of m hometown, we move to the city this weekend, its about a 15min drive from my house, and its 3hrs, i figured it's a quick wedding for some pocket money to buy a new lens? Coz i doubt i'll have any prints from it, (very low budget wedding have been together 18 yrs lol only JUST decided to get married)
They like i said dont want the creative formals....so i mean really...its an easy $500 for me, since i am still pretty new to weddings...
I think i might fo with it then, i have a full time job so this on the side basically pays for my equipment...so its not like i need this job but it will be nice to have an easy wedding for some good cash :)
I'll see what they say to that price...

I have a three hour package - basically just the ceremony, some posed formals and if time allows and they plan accordingly they get the cake cutting and a few reception pictures. This year I charged $500US for this package, next year I am charging $750US. I do include a CD of the images, but no prints.

One of my absolute favorite weddings this season was a 3 hour Sunday morning one (just this past Sunday.) Though it was small, only about 30 people, the bride had every little detail taken care of and everything was beautiful and elegant. Because of her planning, I was there 2.5 hours and got everything - getting ready to cake cutting and toasts.

If you've got nothing else planned I'd take it. It's practice and it's paying work and your price sounds right for your time and effort. I wouldn't do it for less than that, cause like you said, they probably won't order many prints and there is a point where it's not worth your time.

I'm doing a 1 hour ceremony this saturday and charged them $100 for the hour then $75 for the images on CD. The only reason I charged so little is because the bride is friends with a client I shot for earlier this year who were great fun to work with. Plus I had nothing else going on the day so I figured I may as well go shoot for an hour and make a couple bucks.
