Firstly I know there have been other threads on this topic so I hope I am not doing wrong posting a new one.

I was asked to take photos at an event. The people said if they turn out good they would buy the photos. I didnt mind taking the photos (even if they didnt want them) as I would have been doing it anyway.

Turns out they have asked for all the photos (40 - 50) and said I could keep a few. They want the copyright to these photos as well. They will be used on posters flyers etc. for future events. I dont want to sell the copyright is there any compromise I can do to get the best deal here. As I am only an ameture what is a reasonable price for photos. I read a link on price range for the uk ( http://media.gn.apc.org/feesguide/photo.html ) but wondered did that apply to anyone or was that for known photographers? Thanks for reading.

Why not approach them with a licensing agreement for each image used in the publication for a specified amount. In essence what they are doing is buying stock images as you weren't contracted to shoot (from the way it sounds) and did everything on speculation.

This can be a win win for both of you. They get to use what they need and you don't lose your rights to use the images elsewhere.

It shouldn't matter if you are an amateur or not. They want to use some images that you took and given that they are professional organization (I assume) that wants to use them commercially.

I have no idea what the going rate would be for where you live. I can say that the ones that I have sold here that I have done on pure speculation have gone anywhere from 50.00 to 700.00 depending on the circulation of the publication and where in the publication that they would appear.
