Hi all,
I would like to have Your opinion about the following lenses (in preference ranking at the moment) as a general purpose lens for a 300D:
Tokina 24-200
Tamron 24-135
Canon 28-135
Sigma 24-135

I'm also planning to get the kit lens and the 50/1.8. In a future possibly Tokina 19-35....

Every suggestion is welcome. Any compatibility problem?
Thanks everybody.
Daniele

When you go for the kit lens 18-55/3.5-5.6 (which I would call "general purpose lens") and a fast 50/1.8 (good idea as a portrait lens) - why do you want to cover the 50mm with a third lens?

I have read the original post 3 times, I can't see where it says that Daniele has the kit lens. In fact considering the question, my assumption is that the 300D was purchase (or is going to be purchased) as the camera only - no kit lens.

As to the original question:
My opinion on the best choice is the Canon 28-135 IS. I like the IS and the extra wider angle of the 24-135 is not needed if you are to buy a wide zoom like the 19-35.

Thanks guys.
I'm going to get the kit lens, but unfortunately I can't afford a wide angle lens now then i will get it later.
My interest in a superzoom covering these focal lenses is justified (I think) by the need of a versatile travel lens.

Well, Daniele said she was planning to get the kit lens. Maybe you need to read it for the fourth time...

Daniele, I have the Canon 28-135 IS lens, and it's a very nice lens. The Image Stabilizer works great, it helps you to get sharper photos when hand holding the camera with low light conditions. According to reviews I've read on different websites, the 28-135 is generally regarded as a very good quality lens. It's not a professional level "L" lens, but it seems to be one of Canon's best non-L zoom lenses.

Daniele, I'm really confused. It seems you want the 300D kit with the 18-55mm lens. Then all of the lenses you mention you want, don't come close to covering the "wide angle" aspect of the kit lens. Why would you need another lens covering the same focal lengths?
The 18-55mm gives you BOTH a good wide angle lens and a portrait lens (28-88mm 35mm comparison).

I would suggest you start covering the next greater focal length. As an example the Canon 75-300 f/4.0-5.6 for around $400 would then have you virtualy covered from 28 - 480mm. Doesn't get much better than that with only two lenses.
