Maybe this has been asked before. If so, sorry for that.

Are there photographers out there that sell there work on the web?

And if you do, what is your experience? Does it really work?

Greets,

J. M.

I'm not experienced at all, but I know about this web site http://www.artfuel.com
it costs you nothing to try.

I sell my work online. I have sold some, but if you are expecting mass sales, I wouldn't get too excited about it.

My online print gallery is here:

http://jmsetzler.dpcprints.com

You can also sell here but it requires the $25 annual membership to the http://www.dpchallenge.com website for the privelege. I have profited about $135 from print sales there since April or May or whenever it started up.

The plan is that you sell your prints. There is a minimum base price that you have to charge to cover the cost of the print. You are allowed to mark it up to whatever you feel is the right price. You get 50% of that markup and the site gets the other 50%. It's not a great profit margin for YOU, but the overhead is very low and you have no work to do other than upload your prints.

your gallery is very impressive and beautiful. so, what people tend to buy more?

There doesn't seem to be a real trend to it. I have sold multiples of a few of my triptychs.

i don't get it. again, my instructor told me not to do business with people who charge you... Even though i've never managed to sell anything i'm not going to pay to have my pictures sold. it's a tad redundant...

You will pay unless you manage it all on your own and distribute prints yourself. You could open your own studio gallery though :)

I spent $150 six months ago for my website service (smugmug) and made $1000 in those first six months. Sure I spent money, but it was easy and have little to no hassles. I am not planning on making a living doing this, but it does buy some equipment for me...
