View Full Version : Repeated compact flash failure.

My fourth Fuji 128mb CF card failed today-camera reads CF error. As with the previous three cards the Canon 32mb which came with the camera appears to work fine. Fuji to their credit have replaced the previous cards but I am beginning to wonder if the problem lies with the camera.
The card has also become unreadable in my pc card reader (win XP). Is it possible the camera is doing the damage?

Are you formatting these cards using the camera, or in the card reader (with your PCs OS), or just using the Fuji factory format?

Well, that's the best way to do it. You might think about switching brands of CF card, considering that the Canon (a SanDisk I think) works just fine.

Managed to reply this time! Read some time ago on www.internetcamerasdirect.co.uk website that fuji compact flash cards were not suitable for canon cameras. Remembered it as it seemed a little strange!!
I have had a brief look at this site again but cannot find this reference.

Strange indeed as Internet Cameras Direct are offering deals on the G5 with Fuji CF cards! However my experience gives this theory some credence.
On the other hand seems strange not to have come across the problem in other posts on this or other boards.

I bought one then three 256 mb Integral cf cards. My neighbour (also a new G3 owner) had one of the three.

We both went on hols with our new G3's and new cards. The first 2 256 mb cards I used were OK, then (when I had 81 HQ images left) the third one just gave up the ghost.

Upon returning home, the same thing had happened to my neighour's cf card. I couldn't recover any images and returned them to www.digiprintuk. They investigated the prob and said the whole file structure had broken down and the images couldn't be recovered.

They replaced them with FUJI cards and told me to format in my camers.

He did talk about possible out of date firmware? within the camera, but I heard nothing more on that score. So far the Fuji cf is working ok.
