Hi all,

I've just started up my own business and would really appreciate some pro advice. I'm focusing on martial art schools and am starting out with 12x18 'movie' posters and 8x10 'magazine covers' along with 10 packs of mini mags and posters (4x6 and 4x5) for kids to give to family and friends. I'm doing the chroma screen thing and the results are looking really cool and authentic (the parents and kids that I've shown to so far are extremely excited - as am I :) ) and I'll be doing the shoot at each school. Around Christmas, I'm planning on expanding into 20x30 'celebrity' posters and will probably add on 12x18 calendars. The magazines and posters will likely have dual images and sometimes 3 (one main, with supporting backgound images).
So, what is the 'right' pricing for these types of prints? For this type, should I offer packages or just multiple buy levels?
As far as the actual shoot, how long does it take for each subject (I want to end out with a couple solid action shots and a couple good stills. since I'm still a rookie, this will probably take me about a dozen shots per subject).

Thanks in advance all!

Laura

Oops, I forgot my other question. What do photography studios normally give to the school/organization when doing photo's? I was thinking of giving them 10% of sales for total under $5000 and 15% if sales exceed $5000? What do you think?

thanks,

Laura

So, what is the 'right' pricing for these types of prints? Start with a high price &, if they arent buying, you can offer a lower price as a "holiday special"? What's a high price? Are you in Podunk. or New York City?
For this type, should I offer packages or just multiple buy levels? Packages are easier, but you might get more orders with individual prints. Dunno, really. What do photography studios normally give to the school/organization when doing photo's? I was thinking of giving them 10% of sales I've heard 10% quoted here, but maybe someone else will have more current input.

Thanks for the advice and comments!

I have my first shoot booked for this Saturday (very excited) and I'll see how the orders go after that.
