So, I figured i'd get the thread started on going to NYC.. So, even though i'm really, really far away from the East Coast I figured I could atleast get the conversation started.. I think the date has been discussed as being September... Not too cold not too hot, and the light would be better than in the middle of the summer I don't think anybody wants to go all that way to fight with hard light?... So, lets get some advice from the East Coasters... ideas on where to go and places to stay and things to shoot...

79TH ANNUAL FEAST OF SAN GENNARO
TO BE HELD SEPTEMBER 14– 24, 2006
The 79th Annual Feast of San Gennaro, New York City's oldest, biggest and best street festival, will be celebrated starting Thursday, September 14, and continuing for 11 days through Sunday, September 24, 2006.
Presented annually since 1996 by Figli di San Gennaro, Inc., a not-for-profit organization, this year’s Feast will again bring more than 1 million people to the streets of Little Italy in the annual salute to the Patron Saint of Naples. The street festivities – including parades, entertainment, food stands and a cannoli-eating contest – are capped on September 19th with a celebratory Mass and candlelit procession as the Statue of the Saint is carried from its permanent home in Most Precious Blood Church on Mulberry Street.
"The 2006 Feast of San Gennaro will be bringing the world to Little Italy, and Little Italy to the world," said Frank Macchiarola, President of Figli di San Gennaro, Inc. "It is a time for remembrance and reconciliation, and a time for celebration. The good food, the free musical entertainment and the excitement will all be there. Join us to celebrate Little Italy and the Feast of San Gennaro."

Taste Brooklyn Heights and Walk Across the Brooklyn Bridge
Taste coal-oven pizza and delicious ice cream in Brooklyn

It can certainly be a little intimidating for New York City visitors to head out into "the boroughs." For the most part, this fear is more of the unknown and the possibility of getting lost (though I have to admit, getting lost can be both enlightening and a bit exciting) than of any legitimate difficulties with the boroughs. This taste of Brooklyn will keep you well within sight of the Manhattan skyline, while offering you the opportunity to get a taste of the city that is truly New York. This journey takes a few hours, and in my opinion, is best done in the late afternoon so that as you walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, the nighttime skyline of the city can welcome you back to Manhattan.
To get started, take the A or C train (blue line) to the High Street stop, which is one stop outside of Manhattan...

High above New York's Central Park, a truly remarkable event is unfolding. In the midst of this busy city, a bold and daring red-tailed hawk has taken up residence. Affectionately known to locals as "Pale Male," the hawk courts, breeds, and hunts as its devoted urban fans root for its survival. After unexpected perils, triumphs, and tragedies, onlookers gaze in rapt anticipation as the hawk's chicks prepare to take their first tentative flight from a nest on the ledge of a luxury apartment building. "Pale Male" is a rare glimpse of the survival techniques of one of nature's great predatory creatures, and a surprising account of the magical relationship humanity can have with nature.

some thoughts on a meet in NY.
For NY I if we could get enough people to congregate, we could probably get like maybe an official Canon USA person to show up and maybe show us some stuff we normally don't see. But it has to be worth their effort. If we could get at least 40 committed to show up at a specific place/time, I could and would query Chuck Westfall for support. If smart we could time it just after Canon September announcement week for the year since we were looking at September 2007. Maybe see some new toys from our collective favorite company before everyone else.
But unless we have at least 40 people the effort is not worth it.
We could also maybe all hit B+H with our POTN straps simultaneously. (You do have your POTN strap don't you?)
Just a couple of thoughts,

Ofcourse we have the POTN strap. It's a great strap :D :D .. and i'll be there..
So, maybe the first week in September for NY and the second week for London?.. and one other question.. how many folks are considering going to both cities?.. Maybe doing the meet in NY for three to five days and then flying over to London?..

I think I'm gonna skip London. I'm up for like a week in NYC, but I'm picking up a new motorcycle in the spring, so I won't have the cash for London.

Tagging along on this one. Once it gets closer I'll know if I can make it.
My suggestion:

Hey John, those are some awesome ideas! I'm up for any of 'em so it's really up to you and the others.
I think we should definitely try and get something together since there seem to be a lot of other POTN'ers within the area. I'm sure Mark (MDJAK) would be up for a meet as well as he was just bashing me for not inviting him on a B&H trip. :D
I was thinking we could just walk around Manhattan looking for different kinds of shots. I went only plenty of shooting sprees there during the spring and took many candids. Times Square seems to be best for that sort of thing if you don't mind the tourism. Central Park is also another good place to find people, but I'd imagine that we would all be hard to miss.
I was also thinking about the Bronx Zoo and Botanical Gardens but I also like the idea of just walking around the city since that's what New York really is. There's always Chinatown, Times Square, Central Park, or any of the other Square parks.
I'll try to arrange specific dates and locations within the week. I'm still trying to get a new lens.

I split the posts regarding that meet out in a new thread. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=192488
Lets keep this one focused on a world meet next year not weekly meetings. That will just confuse things here.
