View Full Version : Got the wrong charger

Got my new 20D yesterday from the U.S. from a reputable seller. In the urge of charging the battery for the first time, found that the charger won't fit the outlet. They sent me the CG-580 instead of CB-5L with chord. The XT's battery won't fit either. So I had no other option but to tear off the chord from the hair dryer and knot-wire the thing.
Is this common for oversea european orders or was it a one in a million mistake?

To be honest with you, I doubt the dealer even thought to think about the charger and cord ... they propably do a handful of overseas orders a yea. Just a guess, but if it were me behind the counter, I definitely wouldn't have thought about your power cord ... hell, US dealers don't even carry other power cords in stock from what I've seen.

I've had stuff from the states and wholly expected them to come with US plugs,

UK/US adaptors are about £2 in the harware shop

I hope you put insulating tape or heatshrink around those wires ;)

Go to your nearest electronics shop and get at least a decent adapter ... that thing is a death trap, if you put it in your room as it looks on the photo.

- That the XT batteries don't fit into the 20D is a well known fact
- I don't know thether that 'average' US company would even know there are different outlets in other countries

So your thread should maybe be titled 'ordered from the wrong country'

Best regards,
Andy

A girl in texas once asked me how long it took me to drive from Scotland

I don't know whether that 'average' US company would even know there are other countries ;)

Run, don't walk, to your nearest electronics store and get the correct adapter for your charger. That is a fire/electrocution, waiting to happen. Also, the XT and 20D use different batteries, therfore, different chargers.

OP, are you trying to get yourself in the Darwin Awards? That is the scariest looking bit of DIY wiring I've seen since I tried to rewire my kitchen lights ;) ( Failed, lived in darkness for a whole weekend and paid serious moola to an electrician on the Monday.....live and learn!)

Oh, they know. They just don't care!:lol:

adas - if you are using the hair dryer cord just make sure you don't use the charger in the bath...
