Hi all. I'm just about to hit the buy button for a new 1D MkII N and have one last question. Has anyone heard any rumours of the 1D MkII N being updated in the near future. I would hate to buy mine and find that a new one is being released with larger mega pixels etc.

Yes. The III version is coming. Not a question of "If" but "When". The big autumn show. What's it called? Forgotten it. I've noticed many 1Ds for sale lately... maybe CPS is whispering some hints to the pros.

Are you talking about the 1D MkII N or the 1Ds MkII?

^^Well the 1Ds series hasn't been updated in a long time. The 1D series just has. Doubt they'll do anything with the 1D series, unless there are some big changes to be done. Hard to change what's already great.

I am curious.
What is it about the MKIIN You would hate if Canon released a 1D MK III soon after You bought the MKIIN ?
I just bought the MKIIN last week and that camera won't suddenly be a lousy camera just because Canon release a new model.
I think if You want it then just buy it and don't wait for the next model.

The next camera's to be updated have to be the 350D and the 1DsMII. I wouldn't worry about the 1DMIIN as they just updated it recently

I would just buy the camera and enjoy taking shots with it. You can always wait for a newer version but you could be waiting a long time because no one know for sure when something new might come out...

Tommy, I don't think it's the fact that the "old" model is no good anymore, I think it's the annoyance of not getting the new and improved model. There's an obvious reason why things get updated, and buying the old model, at full price is tantamount to treating your customers very badly imho. If you know you're going to introduce a new model on a particular date, then as far as I'm concerned a decent business model will be offering either discounts (just prior to the new model being released) or reasonable rebates on the old model when the new model has been released. Apple has been long reknowned for doing this sort of deal on its customers and truth be told it ires a lot of Apple users from time to time.
Look at it this way. You buy a 1D mark IIn for US $3500 today. In a weeks time, the new 1D Mark IIIn is selling for US $3200 with new and improved features. In all honesty, I'd be rather peeved off as well, especially when Canon knew when the new model was going to be released. Sure, I understand the issue of Canon being left with old stock, that's what discounts are for. Canon, and many other manufacturers like to have their cake and eat it. Sell, what they know is old stock, for maximum prices, introduce new items and make a killing on old and obsolete stock. It's this typical capitalistic business practice that makes me despise modern economics and business practice.

Better point! And the reason for starting this thread in the first place. ;)

One thing to bear in mind the 1D mark IIN that came out in August last year was only a minor update to the 1D mark II that came out in January 2004. A fine camera the IIN still is but the blood and guts of it has been around for 2 1/2 years now, longer than the less than 2 years 1Ds mark II.

Sometimes you just gotta live for today and not worry about tomorrow. I purchased a 5D about a week before the rebates were announced. You win some, you lose some.

I completely agree. Unrelated but the auto industry does the same thing, that is announces the new introductions and offers current inventory at a discount.

Yes, but the difference is that you know new models of cars come out every year. While its true that not every model year is from a fresh sheet, you know they are coming. With the cameras, there is more of a guessing game involved.

I feel ya Lord, I bought an iPod photo (not for actually storing photos) and a week later the iPod video came out. I was pissed! :)

I buy the old stuff. I got my 300d after the xt was announced, and I got my 5d during this current rebate period (which generally means its been out for a while). Am I going to be upset if a new 5d comes up in the fall or spring? Probably not too much.

For those of you that are worried about buying now - wait - a month. After that you can put this rumour mill to bed.
Canon traditionally announce new models twice a year - generally related to the timing of the big shows. Past history tells us that August & January are the months that Canon like to publish new releases. Past history also give us notice that 18 months is the average time before a model is improved.
The signs are there.
The 1DMK11N was $3999 USD approx 3 months ago.
It was then $3949 USD with a $250 rebate 2 months ago.
The price is now $3649 USD. Thats a significant drop. Perfect to runout stock just in time for a new model release or upgrade.
I suspect a new upgrade is on it's way and will take over the $4000 USD to $4500 USD price range. What are the potential improvements?
Realistically, I would like just one - a Full Frame Sensor. Wouldn't that be nice... :lol: . Alternatively, it may go up to 12 megapixel and have some significant improvements in firmware especially for Accessories.

I just looked up the release date for those cams...
1Ds line:-
--------------------
1Ds announced on Sep 02
-> 2 years
1DsMKII announced on Sep 04
-> 2 years
the new 1Ds should be on Sep 06 exact 2 years for each I guess. I got no questoin about it.
1D line:-
--------------------
1D announced on Sep 01
-> 2 1/2 years
1DMKII announced on Jan 04
-> 1 1/2 year
1DMKIIn announced on Aug 05
Does the 'n' count? If not, I also guess a new ID should be here on Sep 06.

Or possibly a new 1D to replace both lines (the 1D and the 1Ds).
