I just got my battery grip in the mail today. However, I am still waiting on my 2nd battery from the Canon rebate deal.

When I put my only battery in the battery grip, it will power the camera and I can work the main camera body shutter release. However, the battery grip shutter release does not work. It does not matter which compartment I put the one battery in, the results are the same.

I double checked and turned on & off the battery grip on off switch as well and still nothing.

Will I have to wait for my second battery to get my battery grip working or is there something wrong with my grip's shutter release?

You're sure the grip power switch is turned on? Do the other controls work? (* button, AF point selector) If you're positive the power switch on the grip is on, then you've got a defective unit.

Thanks JCDoss. It's the unit then. The AE lock button (*) works, at least it will cause the viewfinder data to turn on. The focus selector button does not, I am not sure though if that is because the release button will not work or if it is simply not working on its own anyway. Either way I have a bad unit. Well on the bright side, maybe it will be exchanged by the time I get the Canon rebate battery and microdrive! :)

I had the exact same problem, Take the battery grip off the camera and chck the Gold contacts on the top of the Grips extension that goes in the camera body.

Wipe them off with a clean cloth and then re-install the grip and make sure its tight. Be sure the camera is off when you do this.

This cured my problem and its worked ever since
