I'm still playing with my S2 trying differnt things out learning about this awsome camera, I read about what 3prettyhorses wrote about the normal, fine and super fine, now on the other hand what is the S M2 M1 and L stand for and how many pictures can you have with each setting?

these settings represent the resolution of the image, the higher the resolution the greater the size, the greater the detail, and image of 800x600 is considerbly less data than an image of 1600x1200, what these numbers represent are the pixel dimensions the other setting that pretty3horses was asking about was referring to jpeg compression.
