I know ive seen this asked before, but ive searched and i cant find any threads. I feel like an idiot, i put my circ polarizer over my UV on my 24-105 for a quick shot, and i guess i put it on too tight, because i cant get them apart now! I know theres a trick to it, what is it?

thanks in advanced
Billy

Just do like you would with a stuck lid on a jar, just run it under hot water, or knock it on the counter a couple of times. Sorry, couldn't resist. I've heard of putting a large rubber band around the filter ring to give you extra grip. Also, you might have one of those little thin rubber pads in your kitchen drawer that are used for getting lids off of jars. Same principle, something to give you a little added grip.

Use the rubber band trick, wrap it around the ring closets to the lens filter thread to give yourself extra grip - that almost always works.
bit late, but NEVER put the CP on tight!
You can get filter wrenches but they are probably not going to be needed.

I too had this problem the first time I used a CP on my 35L........I figured out that if I just 'gently' turned the CP, it would come off; when I didn't turn it gently enough, it would sit tight!! Rubber-band trick works too........

Here's an easy and foolproof way:

gently screw a rubber or hard lens hood into the front of the filter. Then tape it on with a thin strip of gaffer tape. Then get a nice firm grip on the hood and turn it off. Works every time.

great tips everyone, and ill try some of them, but most deal with a lens and a filter, my problem is this is two filters stuck together, so theres very little to hold onto at either end

From my junior high science class: Heat up the female and cool the male of the couple. In other words you need a heat differentiation between the two stuck objects.

Yonni is spot on, though avoid blowtorches! This is what I did:
Put a small lens cloth over the big end and stood it up in a nice warm sun-patch for about 1/2 an hour. Then I up-ended it and ran an ice cube in a plastic bag around the join. Voila! It was free.
Good luck.

if all else fails, get a wrench and a few tissues. put the tissues between the filter and the wrench, gently tighen wrench, and slowly turn... of course, that's if all else fails (or you don't have 2 hours to spare for heat difference way, or don't want condensation on the inside of the lens)
