I am 61. Life begins at 59. Wait'll you see my Lionel Richie images from last night! Tonight I am having store-bought delivered pizza (Hawaiian) and ice and cake dessert with my wife, daughter (4-1/2), daughter's friend (3-1/2) and friend's brother (two). They have threatened to sing Happy Birthday. My daughter's biggest interest is in getting to lick off the candles from the cake! I thank you all for this fine song!

Happy birthday! Hope you don't retire for a while yet, you gotta keep posting those fantastic photos :)

Well, actually the photography is my retirement business. I have a 4-1/2 year old daughter and have worked at the University for 30 years but would never be able to retire in this situation without a bit of additional income. I have been working at the casino for about 18 months or so and they seem happy enough with me to last another ten to twenty years! So, the concerts will continue for quite a while.

Oh, I have edited in an image from last night ... just a resize and sharpen.

Second, I was way, way to busy shooting the swooning ladies in the crowd to count them, too! :-)

Ah.... I have a 17 year old too.... so I am already there. The 17 year old reminds me how dang fast the whole thing passes, and keeps me wanting to savour every minute I have with the 4 year old. I only wish I had known with the first one how fast it would pass and I would have made more time for him too. But I know better now.

Dwight..... don't miss a second with your little one... she'll be a young lady before you know it.

I thank you all for your kind words and happy wishes. To those with children, I understand completely and also learned from my first a lot of things to apply to my second ... both children and wives! :-) I have considered a tattoo every year since turning 50 and getting one ear pierced in which I now wear my engagement diamond (from my second wife!) I worry about setting an example ... my 4-1/2 year old already is making lip and nose piercings out of Cheerios and frequently tattoos herself with washable markers [Edit: her daycare, run by the university, has "interns" from classes in developmental psychology majors ... a number of these girls have piercings and tattoos.] ... she used to make herself into tigers and lions by drawing on her face without benefit of mirror ... that was really a hoot. But she does have her other, girlie-girl side, too.

Hey, I missed the official Happy Birthday to Dwight thread yesterday. Apologies.
Only best wishes for you.

What a lovely child you have! I imagine she is a riot and brings much joy.
Ear ring and tattoos, huh? hmmmm . . . Those are essential for a good dad to have. ;) Still waiting to get a stud for my nose. Am not doing it til I can have the piercing photographed - artistically. In the mean time, I think I may have to try out your daughter's cheerio nose ring. sounds pretty cool. and it should go nicely with my colorful macaroni necklace students made for me my first semester at ESU-- mind you these were 20 yr old young women!!

I believe that macroni is ageless! I have the earring ... it is the tattoos that elude me! Cheerio piercings are about as far as I am interested in going in that direction ... although they are particularly interesting if someone eats them! Wait, wait, erase that, even on a birthday thread that may be going too far! Where is my white-out?

I was kidnapped off to breakfast on the beach at the ocean and then spirited over to the zoo (we are members) for the rest of the morning with wife and 4-1/2 year old. :-) Met a guy shooting the lions with a 1Ds Mark II and 600mm f/4. If you are comparing to services on their shipping why are you not displaying both results but only printrooms? mpix charges you a default pricing of $10 as does Printroom. However when you have a large order of medium or large prints, weight becomes a factor. I know for a fact that MPIX is not charging just $10 for the amount you ordered with Printroom. Secondly, MPIX is designed for a person who wants to self fulfill. Printroom is purely designed to help you SELL, and I've never had issues as far as cost because most is justified. Are we becoming like our clients? Why sould I sell my 4x6 prints for $12 when they always tell me they can go to wallmart, walgreens, costco... blah blah. It's the image and the quality and everything behind it. Printroom maybe pricier but it's worth it IMHO

Thanks! Printroom comes highly recommended for selling images. I have to admit that I am having prints done at Snapfish at the moment. I tried EZPrint but they were useless ... I had browser related problems and they did not respond for over a week and never with a workaround ... that $200 order and subsequent orders have gone to Snapfish. I think snapfish quality is marginal at best but they are cheap. I just ordered 100 4x6's for 9 cents each.

Here is what I know....

If I order prints for myself the cost of shipping has consistently been around $10 for overnight at MPIX. The same thing from printroom would have been $46.00

They get a 3% fee on top of the prices because I/my customer uses a credit card, as well as a 10% commission, and a huge fee for shipping which is obviously a revenue stream for them. I'm willing to give them the 3% credit card fee, the 10% commission and even the higher shipping when my customers are paying for it. I just know I will not order prints from them that I use for myself or prints I hand deliver to my clients.

I'd find it hard to believe the quality is any different. MPIX is fantastic I've orderd a large quantity at 3:00am and it shipped the same day with a cost of only $9.95.

Make sure you pay attention to the finish. It can be confusing. I've goofed up twice. In order to get a true gloss finish you have to go metallic. The default is a Matte finish.

The only complaint I have is in order to get some matte and some gloss they have to be seperate orders....thus two shipping charges....even still it cost less than printroom.

I don't want anyone confused though...I really like what printroom does for prints that I don't want to order...I can just send someone to my webiste to buy prints and I dont' have to deal with anything...I can upload the prints, set my price and not worry about it.

No, although I did get the 15mm fisheye. I am trying to restrain myself until I get the 400mm f/2.8! But if Canon doesn't come out with a FF upgrade to the 1D Mark II's I will likely wind up with one later in the Fall and pass my 20D on to my wife who will give her Powershot to Anna!

Yep, I fancied using a bit of film again at some point... so it has to be of the larger format variety... a Speed Graphic sounded like a good idea ;)

As for the IR filter, I too was under the impression that the IR filter in front of the sensor would make it a pretty pointless exercise. Then I came across this: http://www.astropix.com/HTML/M_DAP/M011/M011.HTM which sparked my interest again. IR Sports? Who knows? Certainly won't be action freezing stuff
