It has been an expensive month for me. First the 100-400mm + 2x converter (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpost.php?p=1703846&postcount=25) that I reported back at the beginning of the month and now:

16-35mm f/2.8 at USD$1513 (AUD$1975)

Sometimes I scare myself :)

Wow, I missed this thread.

1125 for a used 30D, if used counts. If not, ignore. :)

I just bought my wife a $2400 Louis Vuitton purse. It really isn't photo gear, but it is insurance that I'll be able to buy something for myself one of these days. Or maybe my wife sees this as her getting even for money I've already spent. Life is so complicated.

Skrim17
29th of July 2006 (Sat), 22:16
Yes but if you continue to buy her equally expensive (and exquisite) gifts life will become much LESS complicated.

If she puts a camera in it I say it counts!

$2400 on a bag... whatever makes her happy. At least my 5D for a few hundred more does something useful. :p

I can't imagine paying $2400 for a bag - not even a Tenba or a Domke. ;)

My wife really isn't into full frame. Now, if Prada made photographer's vests, she might just take notice.

Now all we have to do is contact Canon and say "give all us POTNers a discount or we are taking our spending power else where" if all of us combined spend well over $200,000 USD/month it'd be a big hit from their bottom line to not be nice to us ;)

Skrim17

So, here's what I've purchased in the last two weeks:

7/17 - Manfrotto 3444 Carbon Fiber Tripod - $300, Bogen 3018 Caster Light Stand - $100
7/26 - Halliburton 407-110 Aluminum Case - $230, Photoflex 8' Lightstand w/boom - $75, Photoflex Lightdome 293 with inserts - $150

This gear was new, but was heavily discounted due to the shop going out of business. I've been buying from them for years, so I was given first dibs at a lot of the equipment. The Manfrotto tripod retailed for $695 and the Hallibuton Case was listed at $495. The Photoflex Softbox retails for $299. All in all, I was quite happy.

Grand total - $855

I had to read to find out why this was still going, but I'm glad it is.

I for one say include the Louis purse. If it helps Belmondo, it helps Canon.

I was in B&H yesterday. Bought my daughter a waterproof contraption for her SD550: $179, I think

Bought her another battery charger 'cause she lost the first one:

$39.95. That's a total of $220.

I would have gotten the Kenko extension tubes, but I'm getting so damn old, I forgot I wanted them.

Then we went to The World's Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden, sat 8th row for the Dixie Chicks. It was an amazing show.

And of all people, that slug Rosie O'Donnell was there. They let her in with her Noink d200 and she had some smallish zoom. She was standing near us taking a few pictures. I'm sure they came out lousy.

Carzee
10th of August 2006 (Thu), 07:49
Maybe a morning's turnover.
I think the B&H sales reports would be interesting.
If you could sort the sales info or 'query' it, to report all DSLR & 35mm lens sales...then quiz it for brand percentages... just how much of a lead has Canon got over Noink and others? Hmmm.

That commercial sucks ass... BUT, it does stick in your head, so I guess it does what it's supposed to do...

I'd rather be dumping thousands into my camera stuff like I am now, than giving it to the liquor industry like I used to. ;)

Are we gonna have a August spend-a-thon ?!?

Would be interesting to have this every month and then (on January 07) present a chart with the spending amount for every month of the year...

After that, we could send this data to Canon and ask for a sponsorship in return... We can only hope....

No kidding... I just dropped another $450 last weekend on camera toys... Does it ever end? *Rhetorical question... I know it never ends...*

Carzee

Well JB, nominations are open for the Official Bean Counter for August or September or whenever.
I can easily hand off the spendathon spare months; I can handle just doing the Christmas and the July Spendathons as I do now.

So you could do it..

If the new 1 Series Mk3 appears at the end of August, September would probably be a huge month. In the last 8 weeks I noted a big upswing in the market -of 'spare' 1 Series bodies (various models).... getting the maoney together for the new model I would say.

Carzee, took the liberty upon myself to start off the August Spend-a-thon.

Basicly i just copyed you're text from post #1 in this thread and changed the month. Hope you don't mind me doing that.

The August Spend-a-thon is here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?p=1866869#post1866869

I finally have all of the bills in from July (gulp). The total tab is $13,510.98 in good ole Canadian dollars.

This encompasses the following

1DsMKII and spare battery
A Pocket Wizard transmitter and 3 receivers
A selection of new filters
Quantum T5D flash and accessories
Some new focusing screens for the 5D
Paramount cords for the PW's.
3 new muslin backgrounds and a new stand
Included in this is also some lens cleaning accessories.

August is going to be a much quieter month.
