Meh, not the best, but I made due. Either shot at 1600iso without flash, or 200iso with the pop-up flash ( I figured lighting would be good). Lighting was horrible, I couldnt move from my spot inbetween sets, but I had fun, and gained experience. Comments would be nice :) The fisheye shots were taken with a borrowed Nikkor fisheye, I cannot wait to get my sigma, I loved using it.

Those were the best of 150+ shots

Sorry if they suck, but it sure isnt easy with an extremely slow lense, bad lighting, and one position the entire show. Again, it was a great learning experience though, Ill be shooting another show at the same place again, and learned some things about preperation.

Comments appreciated, thanks.

MOD edit: Too many photos imbedded. Please read posting guide lines (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=157528).

Looks like Im going to have to find a nikon forum...

I never get many responses to my threads, my guess is because I shoot a nikon? Why does it matter? A photographer is a photographer.

I guess Ill be leaving now, to find a nikon board as good as this one, which IMO will be quite hard.

Nope, has nothing to do with Nikon! I replied once and somehow my replies disappeared. Perhaps when Tommy mod'd the thread for too many images. I think also that many of the regulars here are doing their summer things. I think your images are dark and a bit soft ... we all know about the low lighting and other problems with shooting small venue concerts ... we all have that issue. Since we don't know your equipment it is harder to suggest something in that vein ... we often tell newbies to get the Canon 50mm f/1.8 because it is fast and relatively cheap. You also got a couple where people that are cut off in funny places and where a guitar stock is cut off. It might also help if your title had the artist name, venue name and date ... "First time blah, blah" doesn't really suck people in to look. You need to take responsibility for lack of interest and figure out what you are not doing rather than complain and that usually means providing more information and asking more specific questions. I get a lot of responses but look at the number of postings I have done ... you need to comment on a lot of folks stuff to get known a little.

I agree with Dwight,

If you look at the "better" work here you will see a good portion of the images capture the expression of the artist. Most of your shots are dark, and that is ok but you need to try and capture some when they have at least some lighting on the face. I would say try and get about a 10-1 ratio of "face view" vs "artistic" shots.

Look at Dwight’s work, I think you will see about 1000 - 1 of the "face" shot compared to the eclectic artistic unique crop or angle shot. Keep in mind I consider a "face shot" one that could be full body image or even full stage image...you just get to see the "face" of the performer.

Here is an example of some of my work. The performer and venue like what I do because you can see who the artist is and you get a since of the personality of the performer.

This is very important to the performer and the fan.

for a fisheye there doesn't seem to be much distortion. they're certainly not bad for a 1st try w/ a f/4.5 lens, but don't feel bad if the laurels aren't tossed yr way immediately.

Josh,
A lack of response might be related to this comment in your original post:Sorry if they suck, but it sure isnt easy with an extremely slow lense, bad lighting, and one position the entire show.Apparently, you know they suck, and you know WHY they suck. If that's the case, why post them?

I have taken thousands of pictures that suck. Usually I know why they suck. I don't post them. I wait until I make some decent ones.

i like the shots(redhead guitar player and motionblurred keyboardist) just have noticed you made it with nikon. i wish i'd always have a chance to be so close for shooting artist at 18mm. thanx to canon i have very usable iso 3200 in 5d for low light shows. if you love this genre of photography you should try 5d. you'll love it (especialy for its cost :-@)
just an example - there was a fashion show in nightclub. among four guys with dslrs i was one with canon and i figured out i can get along without flash. its wonderful camera.
get yourself canon and join this forum. good luck
