Well, my long awaited trip to Melbourne is just around the corner - 4 more sleeps!!

I'll be staying on Russell St, and for most of it, will be on foot.

Can anyone suggest locations for shooting? :D

Many Thanks in advance...

take a stroll along the yarra river.... in the morning people are rowing and jogging....
and once more during the night along the south bank and the crown casino.
basicly the other side of the river is one big garden.....
the royal botanical park has a lot of nice places for portraits.... and black swans....

Depends if you can get a car or not. If not then the City itself is good. Go to southbank and shoot the flame towers outside the Casino. Go up the Realto building. It costs about 10 bucks last time I went there.. awesome view from up there.

If you get a car head down toward the Great Ocean Road. Lots of Lighthouses and scenic locations to take photos. Lots in Lawn and Apollo Bay. Bells Beach isn't that far away from the city. Maybe an hours drive. Or head down the peninsula the other way and go to Sorento and maybe out to some of the back beaches there.

there's way too much to just see with 1 trip.

Have fun!

Thanks Nidz :)

Sadly, I don't think we'll be hiring a car. Apart from my huge fear of driving in Melbourne city (how you guys do it is well beyond me! - it's just plain scary!!) it as going to cost something daft like $300 per day for a Tarago. :(
It's a pity too, because I'd love to see more.

Looking forward to it all though. I'll certainly do what I can on my poor feet! LOL

i'm pretty sure you can hire a tarago for far less then that, how long you staying...

Turns out that everything has been pushed back two weeks, so we won't be there now until the end of July :(

We will be staying for nearly 3 weeks.

You could catch a game of Aussie Rules! If you do decide to drive, make sure you ask someone about hook turns! Melbourne is a wonderful city. Have fun you lucky thing. :)

Not long back from a holiday in Melbourne and I miss it :-) I enjoyed the Royal Melbourne Zoo. Beautiful place, but the Yarra...... Wow!

I was there when the Commonwealth Games were on and it was a fantastic place to be. I want to go back :-(!!!

My wife nearly died on her first visit to Melbourne. She often navigates and regularly says "turn right" whilst pointing left. Well would you believe driving through the city one day she did just that, she said "right" and pointed left so what did I do, pulled over to the left hand side and waited for the change in lights. It didn't cure her of her "you mean the other right " as I often say to her but it shut her up for a while.

The hook turns are exactly the reason why I won't drive in Melbourne!
You'll all be reading about me, and not in a good way, if I even attempt it!!

Jim!

Those shots are beautiful.
Now I'll not be able to post anything here - look at what I'm up against!;)

I've been writing a small list of things to do, and one of the zoo's is a definate.
I can't wait to get back to the casino either and take some photos...
The Yarra is also a must do thing!

Tell me, did you visit the Neighbours set?! ;)
When I went to Melbourne last year, all my family back home in the UK were begging me to go there and take pics.. I didn't! LOL BUT!! The tour bus did pass me on my last day... :)

Thanks Donna. I liked these too :-)
the light is wonderful there in their Autumn (March). No I didn't do the neighbours thing. Not enough time!

The Aviary at the Royal, melbourne Zoo is fantastic. Huge!!! I'm not really into birding but it was full of the most beautiful birds I'd seen anywhere!!!

You can do the Yarra boat trip which is interesting and you can really take some nice images from the boats. The buildings are awesome.

I want to go back ! boohoo!!!
