This was a tough one. Canon 10D with the cheap, non-USM 80-200mm shot hand-held through glass. Other settings: 110mm, f/5, 1/50sec, ISO 800, and blown highlights everywhere. I had no choice but to sacrifice blown highlights (most of it cropped) to get shadow detail around the baby gorilla.

Very good shot of the gorillas, lots of detail.

To lose the leaf highlights just clone some leaves from another part of the bush over them, nobody will ever notice as they are out of focus and really more texture than shape. Similarly the tree trunk. You may even be able to improve the glass reflections at the bottom a bit, but that is harder as it covers the main subject so it must match up.

I dunno. Just last weekend I watched a few minutes of that movie about saving the gorilla's, all that I can say is that these guys look like the real McCoy !

And to get what you did at 1/50th and ISO 800 seems pretty darn good to me. Like you had no control over the lighting, and I assume that these guys "were comfortable" where seated!
