Hi to all, my Canon S2 IS suddenly started to make a strange noise when I move the lens, turn on, turn off of change the focus distance. The pictures are still fine, but I don't want that it broke.
Any ideas before I send it for repairs? (It is still under warranty). I will travel in two weeks, and I want to take the camera !
Thanks

Can you describe better the noise? mine makes a very quiet sound when slow zooming, like a digital beep, but is very very quiet, and when fast zooming, it makes the classic lens retraction sound...

Thanks for your response. Is not the usual quiet noise, is much louder, seems like something is rubbing (dust inside?)

With slow zoom I hear two noises the digital beep and a rubbing sound thats louder than the beeps.
Fast zoom is loud.

I can't certainly tell what's your sound is, but I have uploaded a zip, with a wave sound of the recording of my S2 sounds, bad quality (too much large file for good quality) but it can give you an idea.
The first sound is when turning on the camera and detracting the lens, the second quiet lapse, is for slow zooimng (ignore the car in the background :-D) the third and fourth sounds are fast zooming (in and out) and the last one is the camera turning off and retracting the lens
This are my S2 sound, and think should be all the S2's sounds, if you have a different ones, maybe you should have it checked in warranty, maybe it just need a clean up
Hope it helps

This noise is different from the normal one, I have the camera since last year, and suddenly the noise is very different, much louder.
Here is the sound in the attachment.
How an where can I clean the lens?
Thanks

And if the sounds makes you feel uncomfortable, you should not use the camera until it's checked, mayb this way you can save it from more damage (if it's damaged)

Go to the nearest Canon Service Center, and have it checked under warranty, the sound is like there are some gear cranks of the lens system, again, maybe you should not use it until checked...

I realized that when I zoom "slowly", there is no noise. Maybe the lens gears?

Yap, it sound like the gears, but to be sure, take it to the nearest Canon Service Center, it sounds like something is jammed inside...
