View Full Version : I figured out why the 70-200 Dell deal was so cheap

I was reading on Mikes camera website looking to see if they had the 70-200 L to buy. Look at the new lense that I found a 70-210 with second generation IS. Looks like the IS lense is being replaced :). Seems given this information that maybe the Dell deal becomes more understandable. I talked with my dell rep today and he said that canon is backordered as well on the 70-200. I wonder if canon will be making more? Hope you find this information helpful.

Incorporating Canon’s second generation Image Stabilization technology, this telephoto zoom responds in as little at 0.5 seconds, while providing up to three stops of correction for camera shake. Its AF system has been refined for better response time and tracking speed. And even the new 8-blade circular aperture offers a more pleasing out-of-focus image. Constructed to pro standards, this fast zoom is also highly resistant to dust and moisture, too.

Might be a typo. I checked his SKU # (7042A002) which turns out to be the regular 70-200 f/2.8L IS lens catalog number. I don't think Canon would supercede the lens and retain the same part number.

BTW, in the November issue of Popular Photography & Imaging, ADORAMA shows a picture of the 2.8L . The description is:
EF 70-200/2.8 L USM (Image Stabilizer)
---USA Warranty ...*1089.95
(the asterisk denotes price after rebate)

Apparently they were thinking of the non-IS version because they list the same lens elsewhere in their ad for $1619.95, and in the same list, $1,089.95 for the non-IS unit.
