I have a wedding at the end of this month. I am not quite sure of what I should wear. I was considering wearing grey slacks, and a black button down shirt. This outfit looks nice, but can get quite hot. I will be bringing a friend along to carry my bag ,tripod, and be like an assistant for me that day. I plan on having her wear jeans and one of my Tshirts with all of my photography info on it, name, web address, etc. This way people will know she is working with me. I would also like to wear this, but am not sure if I will look professional. I would love your opinions, and love to hear what you guys wear to a wedding.

Thanks!

I wear whatever will let me blend in with the guests and go unnoticed. Usually that's a shirt and semi-formal pants, but it depends on the wedding. The search system will probably bring up other threads on this too :)

I always wear either black, gray, or off white so that I blend in and don't stick out like a sore thumb in the couples video, which I know I'm as much a star in as the bride & groom:evil: too bad! Thats another topic. Also I've found pockets with velcro sewn in to be very helpful for stashing back up battery, card, granola bar, airline size bottle of vodka(just kidding) etc.

I just wear something simple, comfortable, and unobtrusive. No jeans, though.

I usually wear some nice pants and a short sleave button up shirt for summer weddings.

dsze- Thanks for the laugh!!! I've been in one of those moods all day and my first thought of an answer to this question was..If it's hot, just gloves and socks, but then I thought better and behaved myself:lol:

dsze, What do you wear to winter weddings?

Don't be silly....I'm a teacher, I don't shoot winter weddings!

I actually wear nice pants, a short sleeved dress shirt and good shoes. I keep a matching bandana hanging from my pocket for sweat and an extra shirt in the truck, just in case.

What do you wear Kat? Why gloves and socks...I think I'd lose the socks and gloves would definitely get in the way of quickly hitting the ISO button.

Gaucho pants are my friend this summer. They are dressy enough, but totally comfortable. They look enough like a skirt that most people assume I'm wearing one until I start moving around. The fact they are pants allows me to not worry about awkward positions that I may get in to get the shot (especially outdoors, I've known to climb up on rocks, etc., and always broaden my stance for stability - dresses wouldn't work!). I also wear a nice shirt, similar to what the guests would wear. I stick with neutral colors - brown or black pants (though I just bought a pair of wine gauchos I can't wait to wear!) with a nice top (I think I've worn green to my last two weddings.) Absolutely no white. I have long hair, and I either wear it all up or at least half up to keep it out of the way. If it's outdoors, it's up, because I live in South Dakota and it's always windy here.

dsze, I described my clothing choice in an earlier reply to this post. I also am a teacher so my smart-elec thoughts of just wearing socks & gloves is my release of no harm intended sarcasm, which I'm not supposed to display in my classroom! Sorry, I couldn't help it:) .

I wear a long sleeve shirt, tie and kaki pants to winter weddings.

To summer weddings I wear the thinnest short sleeve dress shirt I can find. Some are polo, some are button up.

Figure that I need to be comfortable, dont want to miss shots because i'm searching for a sweat rag or jacket in the winter.

I wear either brown or black - nice shirt (dressy - like a guest would wear) and dress pants. Comfy shoes are a must. I also usually tie my hair back so it's not making it's way in front of the lens. I usually pack an extra pair of shoes. I like dark colours so I don't draw attention to myself.

While shooting a wedding at a park this weekend, I saw a photographer with another B&G. He looked like such a slob! He was wearing all black but his shirt was untucked and all wrinkled. He had black tennis shorts on. Seriously looked like he had rolled out of bed in these same clothes, grabbed his camera and went to the wedding. He looked really unprofessional.

I have a crew of 8 photographers and we always dress semi formally unless asked to be in formal attire. I have never ever worn jeans or any kind of clothing with my company name on it as it looks real tacky. I also always wear a jacket as I can very easily take it off when I shoot the family pics in the church and when I shoot the formals. There was I instance when I dressed in Hawaian attire but that was the theme of the wedding so it was ok.

I will normally talk to the wedding party ahead of time to see what type of wedding it really is. If it is outdoors, you can count on the guests being somewhat more casual. The venue for the reception can give you an indication of this as well. If it is a higher end ball room setting you can count on more formal attire. I try to dress accordingly and in some cases, I will bring along a change of clothes for myself.

As a side note, I attended a wedding last weekend as a guest. It was a fairly formal event with I would estimate at least 80% of the male guests in suit and tie and women in very attractive dresses. I was astounded at the photographer and his assistant. It was a male/female team and they were there in shorts, hawaiian type shirts and flip flops on their feet. They stood out like a sore thumb. Even the brides mother asked me if I would ever show up like that. Not a chance.
