I bought a new version ipod from Apple and was told that i also needed the special belkin card reader as well, which I also purchased. The only problem is that it doesn't work. After contacting Apple I was told that "any support would have to come from Belkin." Furthermore I was told in no uncertain terms, "there can be no refund from Apple", "I must seek help from Belkin." Belkin does'nt know why it does'nt work.

What seemed like a great solution to the short term storage problem, quite simply is not. Not yet anyway.

At least you got a great MP3 player out of it.

I agree with Apple, though. It sounds like it probably is Belkin's problem, so I'd stay after them. I'm sure they're taking the position that if your problems are with someone else's peripherals, then take them there.

Give more details...what doesn't work? What type of files, jpg or raw? I'm interested in getting an iPod, but if it doesn't work....

Best wishes,

Rob

That is an awfully expensive form of image storage.

The photo download feature requires iPod software version 2.1 to work. Might want to check that first.

Sorry, I should have given more details. The ipod was shipped to me loaded with software version 2.0.1. I did update the software to version 2.1 which is working as far as Belkins Tech Support can tell. No file types are being recognized so far, and the ipod itself is not recognizing even any of the four different CF cards that have been tried. The cards were formatted in both the 1Ds and 10D cameras before captures were made. I was supposed to hear back from Belkin yesterday, but so far there has been no further response from them.

Bob, you are correct, it is an expensive form of storage. But- the idea was to have digital image storage, and a great sorce of music to listen to when i am waiting for the sun to show up!

While I'm waiting for the sun to show up, I'm occasionally doing my best photography. I begin at 45 minutes before sunrise when there is a lot of color in the scant light.

Bob,

It's not an expensive form of storage at all. You buy the iPod for the music, and the storage comes along for free. :) The card reader is a bit extra, of course.

Brian,

In iTunes you can set the iPod to be used as an external drive or not. Have you done that? Is the iPod recognized as a hard disk when plugged into a computer?

How fast is the data transfer with the Belkin? Anybody know?

Webster,
The ipod that I have is a windows PC version, and as such uses Musicmatch as an interface with the PC.
When I open "My Computer" it does recognize the ipod as a hard drive.
When I plug the Belkin card reader into the ipod, I get a message on the ipod's screen that says "no card inserted" I have tried capturing images in all of my cameras file formatts ( Raw, Jpeg, etc.).

Brian,

Did you ever resolve your issues with the iPOD Belkin setup?

I am considering this as an alternative but only if it actually works.

Cheers,

Darrin

I've heard the transfer rate is INCREDIBLY slow...40 minutes for a 1 gig card :(

Darrin,
It's now 10/25/2003 and still nothing from Belkin yet.
I'll keep you posted.

Sigler,
I would love to be able to tell you specifics as to the transfer rate but have not been able to transfer anything.
I am currently using a USB2 card reader downloading to a USB2 external hard drive and the speeds are amazingly fast. Just wish the EHD was alot smaller.
