I have a 10D with a 100-400MM IS that gives me error-01. The problem occurs only with IS on and starts by the lense failing to Auto-focus. After the picture is snapped when auto focus fails the error occures. The only way to clear the error is to remove the lens and reinstall it back on the camera. It is definitely the lens as I have 2 10D's and both cameras give the same symtoms with this lens. Any ideas or does it sound like it's time to send it to Canon for repair?

Definitely a repair trip is in order. Sounds like the IS motor may be dieing...

Darn, I was afraid that would be the response. This is such a great lens that it is hard to be without it. Oh well, thanks for the quick reply.

One thing you could try is cleaning the contacts,.. but I doubt its that simple this time.

Just tried it but still no go. Worth a try though. Guess I will call Canon tomorrow.
