I'm new, and kind of dropped photography because school is expensive, and I haven't the space and can't afford to set up a darkroom. I have a rebel G and several lenses, flashes, so on.
The 300d came along, and I bought it and the 18-55 lens. But now my sigma 28-200 and 28-80 macro lenses won't work with this digital rebel. I did a quick search on yahoo, and apparently they have to be rechipped by sigma. How expensive is this? Would I be better off buying the canon 75-300 lens for 165.00?
Thanks,
Steve

I'm fairly new to this too, but from everything that I've read, Sigma will rechip it for free. Though I'm not sure how long this takes.

Can anyone else confirm or clarify this?

Thanks.

Steve,

This link will have the info you are looking for.

http://www.sigmaphoto.com/html/news/News.htm

Sigma has had turn around times in the US ranging from under one week to abut 3 weeks is the longest I have heard.

FYI as the link I posted says,. no new Sigma lens should have any problems. It was only lenses mmade before the Elan7,10D and now i guess the Digital Rebel.

Hi!
I have a 10D and have had problems, but may I refer you to a thread called something to the effect of Canon 10D and non-Canon lenses. It is a ways back! Bascically the lenses I have are from pre Dec, 99 and are not compatable with the new 10D. I had a 70-300 Sigma lens that I sold and still have a 28-80 Sigma lens.
The 28-80 is a right pain sometimes! I have also since purchased the new Sigma 120-300 F2.8 lens and had not one problem with it. Matter of fact, I have some examples of what it can do on this website, on pg 3 or 4, titled First pics w/ Sigma 120-300 F2.8 EX/HSM/etc. I have also got some pics that I took this past weekend at Heathrow Int'l Airport of Concorde. Those ones are stunning, but I'm keeping them for myself. Those were done for a friend of mine. Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Canuck
