You've got a lot of lens flare there. What equipment and settings were you using?

I like 3 the best. No lens flare. I shot some sunset pics at Lincoln City this weekend and have yet to look at them but I expect to see a lot in mine too. :(

3 has no flare and i like the ferry in it too.

Did you PP them at all? I'm a noob but there's got to be a way to get the flares out of there.

Any photos of the olympics?

To be honest with you was using popsicle sticks and bubble gum with these shots. I'm using my A610 and my sunglasses for a UV filter :o. I don't have any real lenses yet so I make do.

I also know that the horizon is not level in a couple of the pics. I tried to rotate it in PP but I guess I still didn't manage to get it straight.

Thanks.

No PP really besides the rotation. I am really trying to minimize the amount of PP. I don't want to use it as a crutch or an excuse not to take quality pics, but I'm sure someone will tell met that EVERY picture needs some kind of PP. Maybe once I get better at photography I'll appreciate PP more.

Sorry no Olympics. There were plenty of clouds in the distance so they didn't show up too well.

Were they all taken around the same time? The lighting seems quite different on 3 and 4 which I'm guessing is due to zooming in? I like the lighting on the last two better btw. I straighten my photos in picassa, it has a nice grid that it puts over the photos when you do that. Might DL it. it's a google tool.

Yeah they were all takes within the same 15-20 min period. My sunglasses have a more rddish tint toward the top then it fades more clear towards the bottom. I used different parts of the sunglasses for the shots which is why the color is so different. I'll have to look up picassa. I've never heard of that. Thanks!

Lol, sunnies for PL filter was my trick! Works well I think! :)

These shots are okay, but they are a little boring, you need a focal point. Maybe something interesting like the light reflecting off a wet rock or a pier sillouetted (sp?)? No offence, Im only a beginner myself. :)

Yup gotta make do with what you have available right?!

Thank you for your frank comments. I love comments and suggestions positive or negative. Like your sig says, or I won't get better.

By the way the focal point of the picture is supposed to be the sunset not a wet rock or light reflecting. But I do know what you mean otherwise. I will keep experimenting!

Thanks for understanding. :) I'll look forward to your work in the future.

gotta make sure the horizon is straight

don't mind the lans flare, but I might have underexposed a bit more to add definition around the sun and bring out more colors.

I use to love going to alki as a kid, but hardly ever find myself over that way now a days

Some good takes, agreed on the lens flare. Also remember to check your horizon, almost all of these are skew.

Same for me too: number 3 is the best for its rich colours and the presence of the ferry!

Thanks for the tip corey! I will have to try that.

I love Alki/West Seattle. I don't make it down there as much as I used to but it has some of the best views in Seattle IMO.

Thanks Sue and everyone else for you comments!

did there happen to be a bonfire while you were there? I took some fire photos on my trip last weekend. it's kind of interesting how it turns out at different exposure lengths. You need a tripod though.

There were bonfires going but I did't think to shoot them. Maybe the next time that I am up there I will do that.

I'd like to see your pictures from your trip. Feel free to post them in this thread or any other sunset pics from your trip.
