My discounted .mac account is up and I don't think it's worth the money to renew at full price. not when there are good free or cheap hosting sites out there. So what are some good sites to host pics on, full size if needed, and with hotlinking?

Hi Bobby,
Though it's not cheap and the storage is limited, I've been quite pleased with pbase. If you are interested, they have a free 30 day trial version. There is also this sticky in the 'Talk about Photography' section.

There are lots of sites out there, it's just a matter of taking time to shop around.

Good luck,
Brandon

Great community, as well digital storage for sharing public and private photos.

I also use photobucket for the forums. You can have pages and pages of pics on there and not have to pay for anything.
I have my own webspace that I use for a website etc I have to pay for it 12 a month.

$12 per year for a 100MB account that allows 5GB of monthly direct linking bandwidth. Have been a happy user for years....

I use Picasa (www.picasa.com), so Picasa Web Albums (picasaweb.google.com) is really convenient for me. 250mb storage free, 2gb if you pay.

I agree. Picasa is pretty good for picture storage on the Web. I also use Fotki, imagestation and photobucket.

I started my 14-day trial at Zenfolio (http://www.zenfolio.com).

Looks real promising after trying Zoto (very slow), flickr, and photobucket. Smugmug and pbase both look good and have a "good" feel about them also. Zenfolio is very quick at this point (pre-fetching?), has great organizational tools that are in a single location, themes, nice slideshow and just seems very polished for a photo hosting site that is only into their seventh month. Price is competitive at the basic level $25/yr for 1 gig storage plus 1 additional gig every year you renew. The pro level is $40 with unlimited storage, I believe, plus custom domain name and other features.

User comments are coming according to the site as well as photo printing. I didn't notice any forum which is something I liked about smugmug and others that photo hosting sites that offer that feature.

There is a thread on the smugmug forum (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=34259) comparing the two sites.

idk if its cheap but www.hostdog.net (http://www.hostdog.net) is the best in my opinion to build your own site, the package you get is great and the service is awsome. Down time is pretty much NEVER so you can give people the link anytime and it will work (unlike the usual cheap/free sites). I've used a few hosts and personally dont care the cost, I'll go with hostdog.net all the way cuz of the benefits.

For what it's worth, I have a flickr account and a trial smugmug account. They are both good and I'm wanting to love smugmug but in comparison, flickr seems to have the edge, in my opinion. A lot of the features seem similar and they are much easier to use and understand in flickr. Flickr just recently added mapping and it is much easier than smugmug. Flickr seems to be working really hard to be innovative and cutting-edge.

which of these sites offer an upload option where you can upload a "folder" instead of multiple single image files?. i know i am lazy but it helps if i'm uploading like 50+ images. TIA

www.zoto.com
2GB for Free!
Zoto has a desktop application uploader so you can select an entire folder and drag to the application.
