Hi

I have recently bought a Canon S3 IS and while searching on the net found that it is good idea to use a good UV filter to protect the lens and improve quality of photographs. Please recommend a good UV filter. Also, is it required to get a lens adapter to use this UV filter? Pardon me if this is a trivial query

Thanx

A UV filter won't improve the quality of the photos - it can only degrade them, as it's another layer of glass that can cause artefacts. Only in one case can a UV filter improve images - UV light can cause a hazing effect on film, but most digital cameras are fairly immune to it.

If you must use a UV filter, make it the best you can afford. When I use a UV filter, it's B+W 010 UV-Haze MRC.

A UV filter does not improve the quality of a photograph, in fact, quite the opposite. Skip the filter and take better pictures.
